MA MA - Simone Ridinger, 17, Sherborn, 2 Sept 1977

Yes, I have been wondering myself where the detective has been. I wish they would have searched the elderly mans car when he came forward...fingerprints, hair...

So much time had passed. Was it even the same car? Do we know? If he had a new (er) one, it wouldn't have made a difference.

You can bet the elderly man had a newer and/or different automobile before he came forward with his..."story" in 1986.

I am still really not thinkomg this man was involved. One big reason being that the day he gave her a ride wasn’t the day she went missing/didn’t show up at her family’s home. It was the next day but she was wearing the same clothes.

So where was she from the time she went missing until he gave her a ride the next day?

That really makes me think she was missing voluntarily at first since she’d been known to do this before.

There was also something else that the detective hasn’t elaborated in where Simone was scheduled for some sort of visitation with someone, and the day of the visitation, an officer was waiting there to see if she would show up and she didn’t.

Being that an officer was waiting there, we know she had already been reported missing and she wasn’t reported missing for some time after she was last seen.

I really believe she was alive for at least some time after Tiews gave her a ride.

The problem is no one really knows when she went missing, he could have changed the date to suit a alibi if he needed one?
This man seemed to have quite a strong recollection of Simone, too much recall for someone supposedly remembering giving a hitchhiker a ride 9 years before. Also hard to believe he had never heard of her disappearance before considering he lived in the area. It wouldn’t be the first time a perp has
involved themselves in a case for various reasons.
Is this Tiews Henry C ?

And people wonder why witnesses don't want to come forward . . .

I wonder If the detective has spoken to the lady of this post?

http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-563292

In 1977 my friend Simone Ridinger of Sherborn, Ma. reportedly went to hitchhike to Cape Cod to meet family - she never got there - This was a good friend of mine that was part of my 'crowd' she was 17 years old at the time. Very sweet, beautiful. Her parents held a private memorial service for her about 7 years later. I know that her mother has since passed away. Simone has an older sister whom I only knew of at the time. My heart breaks, I loved Simone and I want justice for her precious life.

Perhaps my wording was a bit strong, however this was 40 years ago, the case has a lot of hindsight, anyway jmo and not ruling out some other scenarios eg. a possible visit to uncles house.

WCVB article....
States she had roommates....but nobody knows who they were!? Odd
Conflicting articles though..I read once she was in school..another article says she didn't. Whole case seems off....we are missing something, just can't figure out what!

Good point about whether Simone had roomates or not. Even in 1977 and 17 years old it would be a financial stressor to live alone. Yet, I never read any public reports about a roomate.

This is what I'm having a hard time with. 9 YEARS later, he remembers what she was wearing, and it just happened to match a statement from her co-worker that was not released then?

Not to sound full of myself, but I consider myself to have a good memory. My first memory is from two years old. However I can remember things like my husband was wearing x shirt when I met him 10 years ago...but his shorts and shoes are vague. And that is my HUSBAND. This is a random hitchhiker.

Couple that with him remembering how she smelled, but he doesn't give a description of the officer...I'm not saying he did it, but *something* is off.

He either did it or is covering for someone who did...

And she is either very near where he "left her" and he was trying to be helpful finally out of guilt, OR something in the article he read/something else scared him so he made this story/location up to keep the real location hidden.

I agree with all your points - if he was being a good citizen I have a hard time believing he did not hear about the case for 9 years. He lived and worked in the area. It was in the large newspapers (Globe and Herald, and I am sure it was in the local/regional papers, like the Worcester Telegram) The detailed description of her clothing vs. the no description of the Mass State Trooper rings BS to me. IMO the trooper scenario never happened. Initially I thought ...maybe the trooper was engaging in a little hankie pankie...Then after thinking long and hard about it, I said to myself no way would a trooper expose himself to a civilian, he would just drop her off out of view, near the highway. And, he happened to pick, out off all the cars on the highway the one guy going the same way as his passenger? Please...

Believe it or not, some people are completely oblivious to what's going on around them. If they're not interested in missing people cases like we are, they tune it out.
I've talked to people from OR who have no idea who Kyron Horman is, and I'm like, how could you not know? It's all over the news, internet, and billboards, etc, much more in your face than back then. They just don't pay attention to it, even today.
Now, if someone who used to work at the diner can ID him as a regular customer, or some other indicator pops up that states he should have known, like he had a subscription to the paper or something, then I'd be like, hm. .. . .

Do we know if there was an extensive search after her disappearance of the sorrounding area and water??

This question I am not 100% sure about given the time lag in reporting her missing. I do recall hearing it was extensive but I heard nothing about searching any bodies of water.

Hope the Detective returns to this thread.
Maybe dive into the elderly mans past...
Put up billboards with her pic. Many people holiday traveling at the time of her disappearance, may jog someone's memory. I would like to know what areas were searched....where she started hitchhiking...and around families home?? Anyone know, can't find any info.

I would think, if a traveler killed her in passing through, he would have dumped her body in plain sight. Since she has not been recovered, it makes me wonder if the perp was local and knew of good areas to place the body as to not be found. Her jewelry and bag were never recovered.

From the second article: "She was also toting her waitress uniform in a gray duffel bag."

Why would she take her waitress's uniform on vacation with her?

I thought that previous articles had said that she was wearing her waitress's uniform, but I don't know why she'd wear a work uniform to go on vacation, either.

Is this set of remains in Doe I'm not seeing it in NamUS, unless my search criteria is wrong.
Yes, I can not find it there too. Maybe there are cases that are in one database and not in the other one?
