I wonder if they mean an african-style print. Still very nonspecific.

I can't find anything even close in NAMUS, match-wise. The only vaguely similar one is Donald Caldwell who went missing from Tuckerton, New Jersey 3 April 1972. However he was only 12 years old. The NAMUS page does say his height and weight are approximate but I still don't think Donald Caldwell is this John Doe. Sounds like a job for DNA.

Weather in the general area. No jacket for this gentleman either. Out in the middle of nowhere dumped in a cellar hole of an abandoned farm house and set afire. I'm looking for news articles of the day (other than those posted) that might be helpful. Will post if I find anything.

Within about 15 miles was Fort Devens. USArmy military base with a long history - the specifics on the timeframe in question are snipped below - US Army intelligence school and also the home of the 10th special forces group (airborne).
