I see no immediate denial that "local children are not involved". That tells me that they might possibly be. The fact that "inappropriate behavior" was reported tells me that this is probably going to grow into more than a child investigation. 36 years at that school. Shame.

David Castricone, 60, who has coached the Knights for 36 years, is to be arraigned this morning in Lawrence District Court. He was charged with possession of child following a search of his home, North Andover police said in a statement...."

Details emerge as coach goes to court on child charge

"Shocking details in the arrest of former North Andover High School wrestling coach David Castricone have emerged as supporters of the wrestling program prepare to send the team off to Worcester tonight to defend its state title.

Castricone, 60, was released on $1,500 bail yesterday in Lawrence District Court after pleading not guilty to a charge of possession of child . He was ordered to stay away from the high school and children under 16, and is barred from using a computer.

Police said they confiscated child from Castricone's 31 Court St. home Friday and allege he entered the girls' locker room at the high school at least nine times in recent weeks, possibly to set up a recording device inside a locker...."

"...Among the images police took from Castricone's home were "77 pages of personal photos of females that appeared to be unaware that a photograph was being taken."

Seven pages with eight images of child

79 pages with 129 images of child erotica, consisting of "very young females in provocative poses dressed in underwear, thongs or bikinis."

77 pages of personal photos of females

335 pages of adult , in which all female subjects "had a very young appearance."

Police also confiscated three cell phones, a laptop and desktop computer, two MP3 players, an iPod, two digital cameras, 20 floppy disks, and nine rewritable CDs. Castricone kept the inside a blue storage bin in his attic, according to the documents. During the search of his home, one detective observed Castricone become "increasingly fidgety" and wrote that he "started to pace around and grip the railing" when they entered the attic...."

It just hit me. Castricone is a contractor in his "day job". Roofing, siding, repairs, replacement windows. So, he uses hidden cameras in the girls' locker room? I wonder what he hid in clients' homes with children? I have a feeling that Castricone was a repeat customer of the surveillance camera catalogs. Hopefully, LE is thoroughly checking out his client list:

"....[Assistant District Attorney, Jennifer] Kunsch said Castricone, 60, went into the girls’ locker room a total of nine times in January and this month and stayed there for two to seven minutes. She did not allege that he took pictures or video footage inside the locker room, but said the investigation is ongoing. Details included in the police report suggest that Castricone was at least preparing to take pictures or video.

On Feb. 7, the day the female student allegedly saw Castricone in the locker room, the school’s video surveillance captured images of the defendant returning to the locker room two hours later. As he walked out the door, he was holding an electronic device with an LED screen. He appeared to manipulate the device, according to the report.

The witness also said the man had his hands inside a locker. Authorities lifted what appeared to be a large thumb print from the locker and noted in the report that, “the height of the locker shelf would allow for a full view of the majority of the lockers on the north wall, specifically the student’s locker, if a recording device had been placed inside.’’

On Feb. 10, police interviewed the school’s athletic director, who said he had had a random conversation with Castricone Feb. 7 and that Castricone said he was planning a trip to Brazil to open up a factory making thong underwear...."

He said he “gets anxious’’ because his son had died and that he had been seeing a counselor. He also told authorities he went into the girls’ locker room to look for a scale used to weigh competitors in wrestling matches. There are two girls on his wrestling team...."

And the scale was in a girl's gym locker? The guy needs to watch secretly taped photos of young girls because he's lonely and sad? Some guys just have a bowl of ice cream, have another beer or check out some adult . Some might even have an affair which, while unfortunate, is not against the law. No pass on the sob story from me. I think he's had little girls in thongs on the brain for a while now.


ETA: Castricone's son was an outstanding student and athlete who passed away at age 22 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He died in 2000. Very very sad but this is not a fitting tribute to a fine young man. My heart goes out to any other Castricone children and to all the young victims of this man's sick voyeurism.

Sometimes it amazes me how long it takes for an indictment. Many sit in jail for 1-3 years waiting for that indictment, if they can't afford the bail. Castricone's been free on bail. So, how exactly does one plead not guilty and post bail if there's no indictment nor arraignment?

Castricone, who has been indicted on two counts of illegal possession of child , was in Salem Superior Court yesterday morning after mulitple parents filed police reports upon seeing him at the wrestling meet...."

*No attendance at any high school event, sporting or otherwise

*No contact, direct or indirect, with any member of the North Andover High School wrestling team

Those are in addition to requirements set at his original arraignment, including having no contact with children under age 16 and no contact with North Andover High School, among other conditions...."

Former wrestling coach David Castricone pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child in Salem Superior Court Wedesnday.

Judge David Lowy sentenced Castricone to 2-and-a-half years in jail with four months to be served and the balance suspended for three years with probation. Castricone, represented by attorney Tom Hoopes, also received 26 days credit of time served.
