Cool. Sky link has picture of one well. However, they say the wells are near Boca do Rio beach, which is far from Vila do Bispo. They also say one of VW's pictures is thought to have been taken near that beach (unreleased or road picture?). Is Vila do Bispo disinformation? Are these other wells? They have a credible witness (not RTP source, it seems).

If you go into the link you've provided, you can see parking area at the beach. There is an abandoned house near the water's edge. Seem to me that the van photo they believe may have been taken on a beach, would be the photo in the attached article.

Possibly the van was parked between the abandoned house ruins and the cliff wall on the left. Zooming in from street view in the parking lot to the area between the ruins and the cliff seems to be very similar IMO - with some new foilage growth after all these years, but the contours seem to work.

NF and RS sounds the most logical source. Also explains why we've heard nothing from them in the Press. Only other couple I can recall CB living with inPortugal are the Austrian couple in 2016 but can't see them being able to provide that kind of information.

First I've heard about any caves. Wonder where they mean.

It doesn't say, just that the Portuguese police, under the direction of the German police, are reportedly contacting/interviewing former neighbours of his in the hope of new information. It's a little vague, to be honest.

He had everything in place to leave already and he saw this as a good opportunity to commit the last, most heinous, crime of his career.

Portuguese police have started interviewing former neighbours of the German paedophile suspected of abducting Madeleine McCann after launching new searches of nearby wells for her body.

In a stepping up of the investigation specialist firefighters and divers were brought in to comb three isolated wells in Vila do Bispo, a town just ten miles from Praia da Luz, where the young girl went missing 13 years ago.



The Telegraph understands the searches took place on Thursday morning and centred on three disused wells over a 100m stretch of remote farmland between Budens and Boca do Rio beach.

National broadcaster RTP said that detectives have discovered “fundamental evidence” relating to prime suspect, Christian Brückner, but these claims have not been verified by police.

Brückner is known to be familiar with the area, and it is where his distinctive yellow and white VW Westfalia campervan was photographed. The images were later released by German police.

Now, under the direction of the German authorities, Portuguese police are reportedly following up with neighbours of his, possibly armed with new information.

This is the first time Vila do Bispo has become a focal point in the investigation, but suspicions have been raised before about a number of wells dotted around the dilapidated farmhouse he lived in until 2006.

Set back in scrubland overlooking Praia da Luz, the German was known to race his Jaguar up and down the dirt track and was often heard engaged in shouting matches with a string of women.

This was his last known location before being sent to prison for stealing fuel in the Algarve. He was released in December 2006, just months before Madeleine went missing, and moved into his camper van.

Brückner, who denies being involved in Madeleine’s disappearance is currently in prison on drugs charges, and is appealing against a rape conviction for an attack on a 72-year-old American tourist in Praia da Luz in 2005. His hearing is expected in Germany next week.

It is not the first time that, there are mentions of caves in the search of MM. Here is an article about it:
"A missing child investigator, Paulo Pereira Cristovao, recently revealed his hunch that she was hidden mere miles away in Burgau....."

although all the quiet beaches in the area have some similar features, Barranco is easily the closest fit. in my opinion.
