To our sleuthers that are amazing at mapping, would you mind having a look over my attached pics?
The beach is “Praia do Barranco das Canas” and the other is what I’m getting for distance on Maps between this beach and our “Praia do Barranco” VW pic. When I type in both in Google maps, it gives me a distance of about 30 miles between them.
When I type “Praia do Barranco das Canas” into maps, it automatically locates to “Praia do Alemao”, ie, “German Beach”. The pic I’ve attached of it has a sandy road, small wooden beams and rope. Coincidence?o_O

ETA - I’m not saying these beams and rope are exactly where the pic was taken, it doesn’t match from what I can see, but maybe further on back up the road...?

I'm confused about the relevance of Praia do Barranco das Canas?

If anyone could find a 2007 image from the above location, it would be good. IMO the WF photo has square fenceposts, but the ones in the above image are rounded.

I did email operation grange with what i thought i saw in the vw,and that i believed it was praia barranco last week. Not seeing what i see is somewhat expected as there were many that could not see anything but i thought the location was solid and i feel a bit foolish if the location was wrong I have had no reply, nor did i expect one...

Some media outlets said last night that the photo of the Westfalia was taken on Praia Boco do Rio beach. They are saying that LE are looking in the area close to the beach where the photo was taken.

We know, as mappers on here have located the actual place, that the photo was taken on Barranco beach. (With certainty)

The Sun have now said it was taken on Barranco beach and so did Sandra in the documentary.

Some media outlets have the beaches muddled up.

We sleuths are wondering why a new beach has been mentioned as the area hadn't been mentioned before.

Maybe they have been searching all the wells in vila do Bispo, barranco is classed as part of this area (i think)..maybe they are just taking them one by one,..maybe the grounds too hard in that area so they have ruled it out or something,(although if he had planned it he would have had time to dig something out before hand..maybe they have been told shes in a well so its the wells they are checking..are there wells directly around barranco?

Yes, but Barranco beach and Barranco das Canas are two different places - where does BDC come into it all?

Now THAT is the question we've been asking - We don't know yet.
Maybe a witness saw the Westfalia there at the time - maybe CB drove along the coast in May 2007 staying at different beaches?
Maybe LE have mapped his route along the coast from various siting's - let's hope so.

Excellent sleuthing again, Betty. Praia do Alemão means literally German man Beach. Those pillars with ropes are unusual, so any location is significant and worth exploring.

This detailed map of the beaches on the Algarve is good if anyone wants to attempt mapping a potential route along the coast that we think CB may have taken.
The two beaches in question are 24 and 30.
ETA- There are 133 beaches if anyone would like to search for the posts on the beach I wish you the best of luck!

In other episodes from Friday to 9:

(Google translate)

Friday at 9 Ep. 23 (26 jun 2020)
27:32 (CASINO CARD).
"Hazel Behan ... filed a complaint for a violation almost identical to that of Diana Menkes except that at Praia da Rocha in this development near the Casino where Christian Brueckner had a customer card."

30:10 (el vecino de Sítio das Lajes)
"Ruth Maclean was a friend of Diana Menkes and she never even realized why the American woman who lived two decades in Praia da Luz suddenly moved to California."

34:00 (ALJEZUR)
"After leaving prison Michael and Brueckner would still have lived in this van between Praia da Luz and Aljezur, but shortly afterwards the cellmate says he left the country."

Friday at 9 Ep. 24 (3 Jul 2020)
39: 44 (PHOTO PRAIA DO BARRANCO) "Caravan drivers who met Brueckner at Praia do Barranco, in Vila do Bispo, where this photo was taken, tell to "Friday at 9" that when Madeleine disappeared, many of them commented that any of the criminals who passed by could be the perpetrator, because in 2007 the police never controlled this itinerant community"

coincidence trail.
I wonder why a stretch of the Algarve from PdL to Aljezur is mentioned. Aljezur is not a place i have heard connected with CB. Maybe they had been in that area in earlier times?
Renee H disappeared from Aljezur...

There's hundreds of disused wells in the area. LE seem to be being quite specific regarding the wells they are searching (perhaps those closer to the road, linking the beaches first) But you are right, it could be any number of wells they need to search.

I'm still missing where this location came from, though. Was it in MSM or in a documentary? I've obviously missed the reference to it

The Daily Record are also saying it is the Barranco beach.

And the wells are just five minutes from Boca Do Rio – a haven for German surfers and campers.

Brueckner’s camper van was pictured on the nearby Praia do Barranco beach in 2007

For no reason whatsoever, how is Foral pronounced? Is it similar to Floral? Or is it pronounced as For Al?

NC, I forgot to mention: Foral and Floral are clearly pronounced differently for a fluent speaker. BUT they can sound almost the same to someone who doesn't master language and they may easily make confusion if this is of interest for you.

Daily Telegraph last night.
ETA - This is what threw us as we always presume the DT as more credible.

Article went out 20 mins ago LOL. So Mendel was right, they are stalking us. Hey Nick Parker, we sees ya ;)

Good. We're feeling stalked at last.

Just reading Guardian article from 2014 excavation of scrubland actioned by Portuguese police on the request of Scotland Yard.

Do we know if the Portugese police need reassurances of proof to action requests like these, or is there a change they’ve allowed the searching of the wells based on very little?

I was hoping it’s a sign that they have proof but now I’m not so sure.

IMO: Exploring wells is not same as excavations. Exploring wells is a risky and cumbersome operation so I think it's wise not to go ahead without credible evidence.

CB seems to go mostly to beaches westward of Albufeira so there may only be 82 beaches to search :D
