Anyone else think, like me, that he did feed her to the pigs as he once said? No body found. Why would he say it unless he’d already done it? I really hope they nail him for this but without her remains I am doubtful.

German police are said to have uncovered a hidden cellar at a former home of the suspect in the Madeleine McCann case.

In a third and final day of digging, they used an excavator, ground penetrating radar, sniffer dogs and a drone in their desperate hunt for crucial evidence.

The cellar was discovered as investigators dug a deep hole 15 meters wide in the garden of a secluded holiday chalet in Seelze, outside Hanover.

This was one of his "fantasies" - to open an Arts facility on the site. How much of a fantasy though? Did he have plans to get the funds to do this or was it a lair in order to use the place for a while?

I know, he's like flipping Phileas Fogg with his travels in 2007. Here, there and eveywhere. MT places him in the Algarve living in his van in Feb 07 but other than that, there's not much to say where he was prior to May 3rd that year. Would make sense he perhaps returned to Germany in the early part of 2007 to live for periods of time.

DF reckons he sees him in Foral with the Winnebago a few months before MM went missing. He says the winnebago had Hannover licence plates at this time so again, another thing to indicate he may have already been living in Hannover at this point, going back and forth to Portugal for drug runs etc. Also AB says CB came to live with him a short while after the MM abduction, so if the allotment neighbour indicates CB left the site in around July 2007 time, that may fit with when he then went to live with AB. All depends on the interpretation of "shortly after", could just be sensationalist reporting at the time to make the story more interesting. Given he gave the Mail an exclusive, you would think he'd have told them the dates he was there yet they don't mention any specifics.

It might have Hannover plates indeed. But current pic shows Augsburg plates. Hannover neighbor says Westafalia had Hannover plates. Just for info sake, Jaguar had München plates in 2003-2004.

I don't get the sense human remains are really expected by LE but they obviously need to be entering scenes of interest with some appreciation that these sorts of forensics could be there.

After the rape, he took steps to cover up his tracks but he couldn't resist storing some evidence as a memento. I suspect that there's a decent chance that there will be something that connects him, it may be more pictures or even some forensic evidence (e.g. clothing etc), others have raised valid point that he may have used this for monetary gain (and if so, vastly increases the likelihood of it being found since he'd have had to distribute though clonable media).

This isn't a usual case and despite all the constant claims that the German LE had nothing and were relying purely on their public appeal, we got the news of the search out of nothing and there does seem to be a methodical approach in their working and they are subtle in media interactions. There's a lot more going on than we see, I suspect they know the answers to the questions they asked the public but just want corroboration and need to take ownership of this if they are to ever be successful in court.

As far we know it was only once she pretended that? Judging by recent developments it's surprising she even had the time to do that.

I read back in June that NF was pregnant when she first met CB, at the time I thought it a bit odd CB would choose to hang around with her. When DF mentioned that CB didn't have a romantic relationship with NF things didn't seem so odd anymore. I can't find the source again, it is out there somewhere.

I’m not 100% convinced that she did pretend CB was father of daughter. We’ve discussed here before about memory playing tricks on people, especially when so much time has elapsed.

See excellent post by sleuth-d- on thread 9 page 15 the post starting "More precise dating of the Malaga photo" which by studying changing features in historical images dates photo to period 7 Dec 2006 to 15 Aug 2007. In a subsequent post I suggested the period can be significantly narrowed because VW van shadow means it is summer not winter.

2 interesting things IMO:

1.
Site is still closed off due to the police-ribbon, so nobody is allowed to enter.

2.
The big white skip seems to hold evidence, that is to be investigated. The tree trunk catched my eye too.

These big skips got following measurements:

Length: 3,5 Meters
Width: 1,7 Meters
Hight: 1,4 Meters

Accoding to the lenght of the skip, the trunk could have a length up to 1.8 -2.0 Meters, so it could be used in a room. I doubt, that it has been in the "cellar" for decorative reasons. I have to think about the known wooden beam in Portugal.

Wasn't it reported early on they cut down tress to clear the area for the search? The trunks are probably just those trees.

When a cement block covering a hidden cellar in an overgrown German allotment was removed, sniffer dogs immediately barked repeatedly, reports the Telegraph.

The paper quotes witnesses saying that they saw the moment the BKA, the German federal investigators, lifted off a cement block covering the basement at the council-owned site.

Upon removing the huge concrete slab, a sniffer dog led the way into the cellar, barking as it descended.

An eyewitness observing the forensic search in Hanover said: “The sniffer dogs were barking quite a lot.”
