I keep coming back to the pair who broke in and stole the video camera. They took that information to the police eventually but why on earth would they leave that evidence to be destroyed? Did CB pay them off? They weren’t exactly close, evidently. I just think you’d keep something like that very close to your chest even if only for blackmail purposes.

so what I should ask you all, far more eloquently than I put it above, is the press announcement:

- a last ditch attempt to get anything concrete at all OR
- to get the final, small details, to snare completely?

My gut instinct is that they have found something new/big on him but they need more.
I don't know how the law works about publishing everything that they've allowed in the last few days, I've never seen it happen before - they must surely have something on him.

I have something niggling in the back of my mind and can't recall it properly and can't find it yet...but does anyone remember watching the documentary that came out (I think the one the parents weren't aware of beforehand) and it mentioned something about the hotel restaurant.

It was along the lines of an employee writing something on a notebook / or paper (I believe something innocent ) like about parents dining with no kids or something like that. I could be remembering it completely wrong but throwing it out in case any of you remember.

I'll keep looking for it.

ETA I believe the Netflix documentary. Will try find the transcript.

What do you think re: the confession the bar? Obviously the fact that the same night he confessed to the rape of the 72 year old and that went on to ultimately secure them a conviction makes him massively credible as a witness.

A hearsay type statement like that is nowhere near enough to go to trial on.

The news about two major pedophile rings being broken up in the last week alone may well be related. Just a hunch.

I’m still confused re the rape. He hasn’t served that sentence yet - surely in all likelihood his appeal won’t be successful?

Yeah he is appealing it, but clearly he won't be released and will be held on remand until the appeal is done.

Yes - first episode of the Netflix documentary. It was on the front desk. Kate only came across it later
in the case files and realised that potentially anyone might have seen it. She said it was probably innocent - to let staff know the plan.

I’m not sure there’s video evidence re: Maddy. I feel like he would’ve shown his hand that night if there were. He wasn’t exactly holding back.

I read earlier that despite some reports claiming he hasn’t proffered any information, they haven’t actually questioned him yet.

Thank you! You have saved me time searching :)

I'm back to now to thinking (again!) that it is initally about M and they want to link other crimes to that.

Did he only confess to knowing about M because he was drinking and her face came on the TV screen?
Do you think that this is the first time he's ever been drunk and said something about other potential crimes?
Was it all down to the drinking partner coming forward?

And they need more evidence.

I think it was about always wanting a certain table because it was closest and all the children were sleeping in their apartments.

Thanks for sharing this. It could be significant.
I’m gutted that I only caught the tail end of the programme, they did name 3 employees of ocean club ( I’m very curious is any or all of them knew CB or DS? ) I am desperate to watch whole programme but I can’t seem to find it on catch up anywhere, if anyone can help I’d appreciate it, it was called The Madeleine McCann Mystery and was on ID channel 168 (virgin media) between 8-10pm.

On the other hand, what if someone found it in your possession, you could get into trouble yourself. IMO, they only told police about it recently, when they somehow realized he was being investigated and police already knew he had a similar video, that he'd shown someone in 2017.

So already the idea that he fled Portugal after the disappearance turns out not to be true ... if indeed this stuff can be believed.
Wasn’t he back and forth?

Yeah I do think they were very uncomfortable having it and I suppose the longer it went on, the guiltier you’d look for not disclosing.

That’s a good question. A couple of reports have detailed issues around alcoholism across the years.

The release of information is really interesting and (seems) unprecedented for German law.

Apparently, but now reports say he was in Floral for months after the disappearance which isn’t quite the knee-jerk fleeing that the press alluded to.
