Sorry - barrister, not bachelor.

Oh, now that is interesting. Especially as he or she reported what they had been told and was convinced it was true M was alive.

This seems really important to me.
It had Portuguese plates. VW is a German company, so there will be a few campers about with German plates...

So if there’s anything to this, she was snatched for sale. Assuming from the tone of this article that whatever she was a part of was pretty dark.

At least in France, the instructing judge needs to grant an international rogatory commission before even doing anything.
I don't know the British law right now with the Brexit, but in France, even if cooperation with other EU countries is easier, it doesn't mean that a police officer, nor even a prosecuor, can say "Ok, let's go interview suspect X in country Z, we have an order from prosecutor".

Before, you need an international rogatory commission granted by the instructing judge.
And Interpol decides if it warrants a Red or Yellow Notice.

The Yves Godard case highlights the roadblocks when the police has to investigate in EU.

And terrorism crimes are dealt with differently from missing persons cases.
Police Cooperation - Migration and Home Affairs - European Commission

All it takes is a few phone calls, it can be done at Government level, but also one police force talking to another, i.e. Brits talking to to their German counter parts etc.

Thank you for having taught me something new :)

I remember the Yves Godard case and the roadblocks. Also the Caroline Dickinson's case. The roadblocks were numerous in those days.

This website is an excellent tool for updating my knowledge.

Also - And this is massively speculative - but could the timing be relevant if she is part of a ring? She would be about 17 now and I imagine there’s a cut off.

And fleeing soon after. And the confession where he admitted to snatching, not killing. And said he “knows what happened to her” which feels quite passive.

Also, he doesn’t have form for killing. Not to our knowledge. We know he makes videos - and that might be an indicator that he has links to some very shady people.

Not at all, we learn from each other, share ideas and thoughts, it's a good thing.

"The authorities believe that Christian B. knew an employee of the Diakonie facility near which Inga disappeared."

German Police Identify a Suspect in the Maddie Case - DER SPIEGEL - International

I'm hesitant about posting too much and overlapping with another case unless something turns up that matches MM's case.

He sent a letter didn’t he. But then, chances of a friend within a 50 mile radius are quite good.

But then, I’d hope that there aren’t so many people that would do this that we have more than one in a 50 mile radius.

That is the whole point of the EU and Interpol, so everything is one across Europe. The EU has been going long enough to get this down to a 'fine art'. They do this with 'terrorism' all the time and have been doing it since 9/11.
Does anyone know if police/governments are even notified everytime a convicted criminal (particularly sex offences against children) enters from another nation? I have no idea how it all works to be honest. I mean you’d hope so, but it seems like CB was able to roam around the EU freely with no questions asked?

Add that to, 'he returned to Germany with quite a lot of money', I read that earlier on the thread.

He couldn’t even be brought back to serve his custodial for offences as a 17 year old - is it easier as a minor? Is 17 a minor in German law?

That is such a red flag. He claimed to have found it in a pile of clothes but it was enough to buy the disused box factory and a caravan at least.

There is something, my understanding is in the EU you are not allowed entry at all into a different EU country. They wouldn't allow you if you have any sort of convictions at all.

"A barrister revealed a man boasted to him he believes he met her on a Mediterranean island.

The man's shock confession was made at a party in the North-west of England - and the lawyer was convinced by the level of detail."

so, the party was in NW england.
at the party the lawyer quoted in the story spoke to someone that said they had 'met' maddie on a mediterranean island.
the article doesn't say maddie was seen at a 'party'.

Is there a link at all?
