Hans Christian Wolters, heading the inquiry into the three-year-old Brit’s disappearance, told the Sunday Mirror he will go on TV with a crucial development on the Brueckner file before the end of the month.

He will make an announcement on five sex cases linked to the German drifter, who was in Portugal when Madeleine vanished in 2007.

IMO, the MM case is in serious trouble. It needs to be noted that HCE has previously stated that he had enough evidence to charge. Now he is saying that the case is ongoing and he doesn’t know if the will charge CB. This very bad.

I think the HB case id weak too. This one seemed to be important to establish an MO. FF seems to be seeing weakness with it and is trying to counter with scar issue.

In the end, I think the only charges we will see are the public exposure in the playground where he was caught in the act and the assault of the ten-year-old on the beach, broad daylight with multiple witnesses.

If this is where we end up, it’s very disappointing. And, unfortunately GA called it from the get-go.

He, apparently, didn't understand that the enquiry he (nominally) 'headed' became, from before the British arrived, a murder enquiry.

If memory serves me correctly, GA went public before the appeal stating that a German paedo would be in the firing line for the MM case but he wasn’t the guy… obviously as he is convinced the parents did it.

I don’t necessarily think that CB is a patsy. He is the right mould of criminal and he was likely in the area. Also he has allegedly (I think strong allegations) admitted to the crime twice. Furthermore, I think there is probably info in Das Buch. Finally, I do think HCW has evidence not made public. IMO, it’s very possible he is the right guy.

I really can’t buy in to the conspiracy that HCW and the BKA have done all this to move suspicion away from the parents - why on earth would they?

That would be some can of worms imo, all the news articles reporting that which is quoted to Wolters would have some king of legal recourse against them, probably not I'd surmise. Still unfounded accusations have been defended in the brit courts in this case so who knows.

CB is a awful human being no question. But, IMO, there is a big jump from the crimes he has been convicted of and that of murder. Being publicly accused of the latter and of a three-year-old girl in media with a global audience will stay with him long after he serves his sentence for the DM rape. It offers him no way back even if he wanted it. If he is innocent of the MM crime, which now seems possible, he has been treated poorly by the prosecution IMO.

Mostly I would be most unhappy with no justice for MM. whoever CB is, I don’t think this ending is right for him or the legal system. And, I am aching to know what info HCW has on CB.

I agree, but one wants the correct ending.
If the investigation into Brueckner collapses, I see it as unlikely that another culprit will be sought. They haven't got anybody else.

In order for CB to be charged and prosecuted for the 5 new cases, he must first be extradited from Italy for those specific crimes.
German LE had initiated the extradition request in May-June(?) of this year. Now: has Italy granted the German request? Will HCW's press release reveal the outcome?

A prosecution against CB in the case of MM can only follow after the other five charges and prosecution will have taken place.

So, yes, it all takes much time.

That a professional police force would engage with let alone embark upon such a smoke and mirrors path, putting its reputation on the (international) line, is just ludicrous. No it’s not a working conspiracy but I think there are people who think it is.

The appeal and HCW’s comments afterwards were a strong position that they had the right guy - I felt a charge inevitable. As time has gone on by, I’ve felt less convinced. Now I think there is practically no chance.
