Barragem of Arade

View attachment 423931

The deep of water in April was 49,6 meters and growing. Could they empty the Barragem to some lesser point?

But the bottom is not at 49,66 meters. I am searching for more data in Portuguese.
According to this ITV news report the level of water is very low and they may not need divers…

The reports say the search will be 80% on land and 20% in the water. I wonder whether they are trying to find MM's clothes or something similar that CB might have buried there? It doesn't make sense to focus on land, does it?
Well, it makes a lot more sense to me, as CB is known for being keen on burying incriminating stuff.

Let's be honest, throwing a body into waters is highly dangerous, because the possibility is very high, that it will come back on to the surface really soon after. You might also need a boat to be sure, it won't come up again too early. Ihmo it needs a lot more effort to drown something successfully, than just digging a hole...

Not sure , if it's a place that CB visited finding something of his would just confirm he was there, they need a link between CB and Madeleine. Imo.
I thought of an usb stick.

Almost certainly not, but the German prosecutor/spokesman Wolters is a master at creating more uncertainty every time he speaks. So truthfully nobody knows for certain what they've found, or not found.
It may be a video, or a photo, or non-forensic evidence, or another thing, or nothing at all ... I do not want to deny it.

Maybe more CDs or memory sticks? A USB might be detected with a metal detector I guess.

You've captured him perfectly there :D

The main target should be possible remains of MM, or maybe clothing etc..

But i'm curious as well. I would assume some kind of specific target, according to the short schedule in direct comparison to the huge area.

I read two days or more, fi they found something of interest.

BKA found photos of him at the dam. You gotta give credit to the Germans for the work they are putting in to this. I think this is work driven by the input of their Forensic Psychologist.

Jon Clarke tells Sky News "I think the police are confident of finding two or more bodies here". (Shameless hack)

I think land makes a lot of sense.

Abduction cases typically have multiple crime scenes, the final one of which is the 'dumping ground' - bodies are frequently not that well concealed.

Their hunch may simply be this is a place he knew well, where he could dig a shallow grave without being discovered.

My question is: the body of water is an interesting point to thrown a corpse, but if someone think of hidden a corpse by burying it, why close to a body a water, and not elsewhere? After all the suspect was always moving around all the Algarve ... There would be intelligence, I expect not to be Marcos Correia love spirits informants.

it may not be related to the water, but rather this is a place he knew, and was confident about

It was the same in the McStay case - the gravesites was down a backroad well known to the killer

I guess we'll have to rely on the Olive Press back channel!

So the press statement informed that they cannot inform :)
Maybe all of this is to put pressure on the suspect, to observe his reactions.

I have been mulling over the information that we do know and it puzzles me. It also calls to mind the struggles SY had with letters of requests in 2014 and the restrictions the Portuguese authorities placed on their investigation.

The German investigation was reported to have been refused permission to recheck a DNA sample. I find it absolutely extraordinary that the search of an area in the conditions detailed in the public domain, has been restricted to an allotted two days.

That is so bizarre it is practically unbelievable.

Fingers crossed they have something and this is not a wild goose chase like 2014

if you read the necroseach book you will see it is not bizarre at all for cold cases

It is extremely difficult to get police authorities to sign off on big budgets for cold case searches unless there is a high degree of confidence, or something is found early on that can trigger a larger investment.

When you look at the scope of resources allocated here - it is a significant amount of money quite obviously. Hence i am not surprised there are budgetary limitations. Especially after the fiasco of 2014.
