And just to emphasize my opinion. Don't forget about the occasion, he made that statement. The panikspatz66 chat.

Don't forget the reaction of panikspatz. The ominous "MM" answer. No native german speaker would use that phrase whilst trying to express the thoughtful mood. It would have been "HMM" oder just "HM".

It wasn't the verbal expression of a mood, like "argh" or "blah, blah" or maybe "rofl". It must have been an abbreviation. CB boasted more than once about knowledge according to MM in public. Just imagine what he may have boasted around with in his vile paedo clubs....
And just to mention that in his latest letters he does use the FF abbreviation when referring to his lawyer! So it might not be so off that he indeed abbreviated MM's name as well in that chat

Official statement from the Braunschweig prosecution

Madeleine McCann case: Search operation completed in Portugal

PRESS RELEASE FROM 01.06.2023

The search operation carried out last week in the area of the Arade-Stausesee in Portugal was completed on Thursday after three days. A previously precisely defined area along the reservoir was completely searched for possible evidence.
As part of the measure, some items were secured. These will be evaluated in the coming days and weeks. It is not yet possible to say whether some of the objects actually have a reference to the Madeleine McCann case.
Many thanks to all police officers involved in the search. The cooperation between the Portuguese police, the police officers from Great Britain and the Federal Criminal Police Office was excellent and very constructive.
The investigation conducted here in Braunschweig against the 46-year-old suspect is expected to continue for a longer time.״

At last there's a professional press release from the Braunschweig prosecutors. Factual, unsensational and unequivocal.

Like all other press releases... the problematic narrative started with the Q&A session after the press release or at interviews. Press releases have always been to the point and unsensational

The guy's as much a politician as he is a prosecutor I think. He knows exactly what to say to keep the faithful happy.

We pretty much knew they didn't find remains. If they had, it would have been announced immediately

I take this to mean, he isn't going to be arrested anytime soon.

I've been wondering if now they've opened the Judicial process against CB on the other charges, he is much more restricted in what he can say - there are likely some publicity restrictions in place on those charges even if only because some were against children. But especially once there is a judicial process, the judges are in control.

The Mail have it as a number of items, how it quickly expands.

For the murder of Madeleine ? The arrests for the 5 indictments of sexual offences were dropped for now until such time as jurisdiction is settled.

The mirror has an interesting take on it

In June 2020, German police said that they believed Madeleine was dead and that their suspect Christian Brückner was likely responsible.
The 45-year-old once referred to the reservoir as his "little paradise".

Now detectives are desperately seeking evidence to link Christian to Madeleine's disappearance, which led them to carry out the first search in nine years last week.

Even the Mail refers to the desperation underlying the actions of the police. If they are desperate it seems to me that it's because of the statements made by HW Wolters who, imo, has previously said far too much.

I've always had 2 thoughts on this.

First, Braunschweig office was always likely to be unprepared for such global media attention. Especially german media reps are not experienced with english tabloid media. IMO they've got better at it, and more careful.

Second, there is bound to come internal, political pressure about Braunschweig pursuing such a high profile, expensive, yet out of jurisdiction case. They must have had something really solid to get the OK from the bosses, but i do wonder how long it will be funded if we head into a 4th year

CB is already in jail convicted of heinous crimes. The system is currently in use to delay his prosecution for five more.
There is still an ongoing international investigation into the MM case so there is obviously a reason for that and as long as there is why should the investigators be in any rush? Particularly as the procedural logjam causing the present delay is not of their making.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with that one mrj. Now all that remains is to find an appropriate judge and court to do the business.

Of course they're in a rush. Their superiors must be thinking if six years hasn't been enough....

They set themselves up on June 4 2020, declaring they knew for certain what happened to Madeleine. Operation Grange must have looked incredulously at what was going on in Braunschweig.
