Despite me being critical of the Portuguese Police, I honestly think the case was just too complicated and vast for them to solve alone.
A foreign child taken from her bed, no evidence and little to go on.

From day one they had their
Minds set on the McCanns being involved. Everything was geared to prove their guilt; they never got around to asking the question, 'what if it wasn't them?' Tunnel Vision.

In regard to no evidence of the bed being stepped on, in the case of the Irish lady she said the perpetrator left his shoes at the door and put them back on as he was leaving. A possibility that he went in without shoes or took them off at some point, therefor leaving no trace of footprints on the bed near the window?

But then he'd have to stop and put them back on while holding a (sleeping?) child? Maybe he wore flip flops and leotards?

Or a fetish with ladies slippers - (in these circumstances I shouldn't be making up jokes)

Ballet slippers go well with leotards, quiet, no footprints or slipping.
If CB did wear a getup like that, he could easily wear clothing over it all for quick disguise and to contain any potential dna evidence, imo, speculation.

The ex GF said she didn't think it was a fetish and that he just liked fancy dress parties

So if they have id'd the tip off in the Tapas Bar - who would have needed to look at the bookings form? Someone setting the tables to see how many places needed laying, bar staff, who?

I've been looking back again at the break ins involving sexual assaults in the Algarve. The burglar (PB) who died in 2015 was a black man, originally from Cape Verde, just in his 20's and there was no mention of him having a sexual offending record. I don't think he matches the descriptions of the man carrying out burglaries around the time of MM's disappearance.

This man was described as "dark-haired" (a wig?) and tanned and:

"said to be unshaven with unkempt hair, spoke English slowly, with a foreign accent, possibly with slurred speech. Some witnesses suggested he had a pot belly while three victims suggested he had a distinctive smell, one involving aftershave, another tobacco while a third just described "a funny smell".

The bit about the distinctive smell jumped out at me because it was mentioned in a DM report over the past few days that, while in Germany, CB was nicknamed "The Screwdriver" because he always smelled of oil and petrol.

I'm looking for the link between CB and AB. Did AB state he had the car registered in his name?
Who was the middle man/woman or both? Done through a mutual acquaintance? Someone being blackmailed/threatened?
Who did AB owe a favour to?
Quite significant that some original suspects re-interviewed in 2013/14ish when CB likely started being looked at.
In a PJ statement one had significant car background.
I think AB also said that he had the use of the Jag for 3 months. So he was receiving something in return.

ETA Yes, I think he said it was registered in his name. I thought he meant registered at the time CB arrived at his place rather than earlier

‘According to Der Spiegel, the German police were already on the trail of this suspect in 2013 after information from a man who claims to have been a colleague of B. at the time of the events. Following this testimony, the police in Braunschweig B. had immediately called, according to the same source, to question him as a witness.

Interrogation notice

In the official letter to the suspect on November 4, 2013, which Der Spiegel claims to have read, the police clearly told the suspect that they wanted to hear about the Maddie case, giving Christian B. enough time to destroy all evidence’

Did anyone read this??
Sorry,if it is a re-posted,but I just went like:

He wouldn't be telling her if they were for disguise/performance though I suppose

But she didn’t think he was into children either. I’m not convinced she knew him well at all. She was only with him a year, and during that time, she said he was often traveling back and forth between Germany and Portugal.

I was thinking more he took them off to pick her up, stand on the bed and lift her out the window to an accomplice or even left them outside the apartment whilst he went in.

Some have said he wouldn’t of needed to stand on the bed but the pictures show the bed under the window as up against the wall don’t they or does there appear to be a gap between wall and bed?

The bed only reaches half way under the small window that opens. you wouldn't need to stand on the bed, or if you did, you'd put your foot on the very edge, probably the base. Sky-06-08-08-PICTURE-17.jpg

The funny smell, Marajuana? We did hear from the owner of the property in Foral that when it was abandoned, bars of Marajuana were found. Certainly a distinct smell imo.

Why did Madeleine McCann cops waste years investigating GP sighting?

If you read the article you will find that all this is explained. This man and his wife were fully aware at the time, but the police did not match them up with the Tanner sighting.

He was interviewed by the Guarda Nacional Republicana soon after Maddie, three, vanished in May 2007, but his wife Rachel said: “My husband had told the local police it could be him but we didn’t hear anything for years.
“When the police finally realised the significance it was too late to really help.
“We always thought it was Julian who was seen by Jane Tanner
"But the national police who investigated didn’t get back to us and we don’t know if our information was ever passed on.”
.....
Efforts by the Totmans, who live in the South West, to point out the importance of Julian’s movements fell on deaf ears. They were never contacted by Leicestershire police, whose officers were responsible at the time for collating all UK inquiries.

Not so surprising that they kept the pyjamas then. They were always expecting it to be followed up.

The elephant in the room here is the opinion of Jane Tanner herself.

Again it's worth pointing out that police simply followed the evidence and murat identification of the primary witness.

Tanner man walked a different route so cannot have been Tottman unless Tanner herself finally agreed with police she had it wrong.

IMO that must have happened and fixes the inherent issues with tanners story

Why on earth anyone blames Met/PJ for this I have no idea

It was Tanner whose confusion sent the early investigation down the wrong path.
