‘German acquaintances who, at his request, emptied Brückner's Portuguese house after he was arrested, stated during the rape process that they had stumbled on two videos. In it, they saw him in rape scenes that seemed "unplayed" to them. Once with an old woman, other times with a young person tied to a wooden pole, the Braunschweiger Zeitung wrote down.

The witnesses also said they saw about a hundred self-burned CDs with labels of "certain sexual practices" including bestialities. A German café friend from Praia stated that he saw three stacks of passports during a visit. "Found during nocturnal walks," said Brückner.’

Lets hope they find evidence/ “throphy’ showing what happened to Maddie, but he had enough time to get rid of all the evidence.imo

He sure had all of the traits of being a sexual sadist. All sexual predators are pure evil, but the ones who are sadists are at the top of the worst sex offenders because of the diabolical pain they inflict on all of their helpless victims.

It makes my heart break for little Maddie, and how he must have made her suffer unimaginable horrors before taking her beautiful life from her.

This?

'
Criminal proceedings are divided into three stages: Investigation, intermediate proceedings, and the main proceedings or trial (including appeals and enforcement).

  • Investigation (Ermittlungsverfahren): The prosecuting authorities (either the public prosecutor or the police) will start an investigation if they suspect you of a criminal offence. The aim of the investigation is to establish whether or not the suspicion against you is justified. In order to conduct their investigation they may take a variety of measures, including searching your home. When the investigation is complete, the public prosecutor will decide whether to discontinue the proceedings on lack of suspicion or whether to charge you.
  • external.gif
Intermediate proceedings (Zwischenverfahren): In the intermediate proceedings a court assesses the charge and decides whether or not the prosecution should proceed. If the court believes that there is enough evidence to make a conviction likely, it will open the main proceedings.
  • Main proceedings (Hauptverfahren): In the main proceedings, the court prepares and conducts the trial. The court tests the charge at an oral hearing on the basis of the evidence available (eyewitnesses, documents, etc.). You will also be given the opportunity to tell the court your version of events and to comment on the allegations. If you are found to have committed the offence, you will be convicted. If not, you will be acquitted. You can appeal against a judgment within certain time‑limits. In a full appeal (Berufsverfahren), the main proceedings are repeated before a higher court. In review proceedings (Revisionsverfahren), the judgment is checked only for legal defects.'

Yes, I think this is it. Thanks a lot!

I totally agree he seems like a sadist but hang on....he hasn't had enough evidence to be charged yet.

The first thing most people would think in such situation would be that the child had woken up and wandered out to look for the parents. She might even have been hiding, kids do that. So I imagine that's the explanation.

Sorry, but you're missing the point. Kate INSISTS she raised the alarm at 10pm. So do all the friends.
No-one should have been searching in the bushes at 9.45 before she found Madeleine missing!

Speculation

For those worried CB is not getting charged - he is the fall guy, that’s his role and one he agreed to whether he wanted to or not back in 94.

I think MM was alive until 2013.

Too many people have seen a video or at least have talked of one in the latest ‘ringbusts’ and so it is finally time for the fall guy to play out. This ties up the loose end and no need to look any further to where she ended up.

I don't place too much value on their recollections for reasons that have already been explained by others. Equally the waiter, or whoever it was, may have made a mistake with the time.

When the kiosk was taken over, CB wanted to take the freezer and air-conditioner, but the new owner wouldn't let him have them. CB turned up with some acquaintances (might be worth investigating them), one who had a knife and threaten the new owner of the kiosk.
Maybe he really needed a freezer

I must be missing something here. Why would the fact that someone made or received a phone call be a cause for suspicion?
Only if that person didn't usually make as many calls. The investigators look for unusual traffic in the vicinity

I'm still confused as to why the German police are so active about this case now. If it was 2017 that they were tipped off about the chat in the bar, have they only now sifted through all the evidence and come to a dead end?
Or have they found something, but just need the final piece of the jigsaw?

He was up for parol/release after completing part of the sentence for drugs.

ETA:last Sunday, I think. While reviewing his conditions for early release, the

Germans realized something’s up with this guy bc he was up on appeal from the brutal rape conviction of the 72 year old from YEARS earlier.

ETA: which still had not been decided.

About this time, UK wanted additional funding for MM.
But as to what EXACTLY triggered the connection, I don’t recall. Someone here likely would remember.

I have never seen any mention of a video? Can you post a link

Yes there were many contradictions but then the Family/ friends could have made mistakes too. The timeline being 'off' could lead to all kinds of confusion and focus on the wrong people.
It was 'corrected' once in 2013 when SY declared the 'Smithman' sighting was now the focus of their enquiry.

He was flagged up to German police from a TV appeal in 2013. They then sent a letter to him asking him to come in for questioning for the 'Madeleine McCann' case. They shouldn't have warned him like that. That means in 7 years they have had to try and gather evidence with him exercising his right to silence and any physical evidence may have been destroyed.
IMO the appeal was a last-ditch effort to get something on him so the German police can avoid criticism for their huge error.

Surely CB finances are being investigated?

I doubt whether they are just looking at that one particular phone call - this will be a call among others made/accepted from his phone - They're just trying to piece together his movements and who he spoke to and where he went, days before/after MM went missing,by means of call tracking, over a certain period. IMO

I think they are interested in solving Inga’s case. They know it was CB, but they don’t have evidence to try him. And they want to prevent him from doing it again. They are using the notoriety of the MM case to dig up any dirt they can find on him just to keep him in jail. They’re desperate to keep him off the streets. I think they know they aren’t likely to solve Madeleine’s case or Inga’s. It’s tragic.

Also I doubt that he ditched the phone.
He seems sloppy, impulsive and disorganised to me and not very smart.
He left video's in his old home! He hid memory stick, which was found. He's already been imprisoned for various crimes
BUT on occasion he has just been LUCKY that's all - a lucky escapee from a very messy, competitive, cross border investigation.

It's a bit of a worrying thought - and I don't disagree with you, that they would mention M's name for reasons of publicity and without having something (new) to back it up.

They could be referring to what they had on him in 2013 and/or new evidence
