I haven't seen that. It is all very confusing, I am inclined to agree with the recent post that said he should probably stop making so many announcements. With translation issues and the different legal system it does seem to result in what seems like inconsistencies.

Agree. ^ I'd add to the above the additional issue of the Germans not being emotion-led in their investigations, hence his comment and his subsequent 'back-track' about not appreciating the impact his words might have had on a more emotion-led UK audience.

I think everyone's having probs understanding HCW's statements and the "what & why's" etc. I think the news that the PJ are taking it serious and that the McCann's lawyer is going to Germany this week indicates that they have something of significance.
"A senior Portuguese police source, who has seen the German evidence against Christian B, has told the BBC it is "very important" and "significant".
Madeleine evidence 'significant' - Portugal police

If he's "seen" the evidence, then can I just point out that it could be a witness statement on video? EG: perhaps they questioned someone in relation to something entirely related or unrelated to CB and that person ended up giving them something of value? Seen evidence implies its a visual, so to me that implied video / photo of some sort. I suppose it could be a written statement... sigh I guess I'm just trying to guess at what it is.

'According to JN, it was the PJ’s suspicions of Monteiro that lead them to reopen the Portuguese investigation into the toddler’s disappearance.
His mobile phone was logged as being active in the area on the night that Madeleine disappeared, he was a former employee at the Ocean Club – apparently sacked for petty thieving – and his description matched that of a suspect sought for alleged sex attacks on British children in the Algarve between 2004-2006.
A semem sample recovered from one of the attacks was tested against Euclides own DNA, but, as JN revealed last week, it has been found to be different. As there was also no DNA evidence linking Euclides with the McCann’s Ocean Club apartment, the dead man’s family’s claim that he was being used as a scapegoat would appear to hold some weight.'

Madeleine: DNA finally clears dead suspect - Portugal Resident

It seems they suspected him due to his phone placing him in the area (same as CB) but he was cleared by DNA.

Riddle me this: how does DNA rule someone out in MM's case unless they HAVE a suspect's DNA on file from the scene??

I’m surprised the PJ have only just decided to search the wells around his home, considering he’s been a suspect since 2017? Im sure they didn’t find out he was a suspect only a week ago like the rest of us did.

although, I really doubt he would dump her body so close to his own home. But who knows. He doesn’t strike me as some kind of criminal mastermind to me but he does seem to plan his crimes to a Tee. The rape was very planned and methodical the victim said, the Irish girl said the same (assuming it was actually CB) so I’d imagine he’d come up with a better hiding place than a well in his own front garden.

PJ said recently they have never received any [official] request from Germany. It's understandable they would charge him on info we all can access in media and we know isn't enough (a guy says he said something).

Saturday, PJ said they had "significant evidence". So, I suspect they had finally got a judicial request from German LE. Whatever "significant evidence" they're talking about seems to be secret.

Maybe it's just a figure of speech and could also imply he has seen 'the' evidence as in all of it, a file or document of some kind.

They did have some unidentified partial samples I think.

I'm wondering what criminal suspicion lead to his his ex girlfriend being deported. He may have been using that phone/sim again when he returned to portugal. Maybe she found the phone and turned it on. He didn't immediately leave with her according to tabs.

CB will face no charges

The evidence is weak and any decent defence lawyer will have a field day

I think this is of interest here: A listing of Ocean's Club employees done May 7, 2007 and filed in "Processo". Some part of mobile numbers can be seen.

Monteiro is a family name used last usually. I can't find it, except a woman, Virginia.

I agree, unless they get something that ties him to the apartment and proves he was in there but how could they? The main witnesses that night ( McCanns and friends didn't see him).
A Portuguese judge has said similar.

'
Legal expert, Rui Pereira, said Christian Brueckner could be made to make the journey if the German prosecutors made such a request and it was approved by Lisbon.

The technique is traditionally used by Portuguese police to test the claims of suspects offering a different version of events, and the ones held by police.
He told Correio da Manha “From the start, the most plausible hypothesis seemed to be that of kidnap, a sex crime and murder...........

......“Madeleine would have appealed to sexual predators who target children.”

But he added: “Without a body, without witnesses, with guarantees under a State of Law such as a suspect’s defence rights and the right to remain silent, a miracle is needed.”

Maddie suspect could be flown to Portugal to 'recreate night she vanished'

The evidence seems weak because WE don't know what it is.

I hope I am wrong. Too much speculation and it needs to be definitive 100% evidence

if that existed he would have been charged by now

  • #336
We know the evidence is weak (as in not enough to be charged) because he hasn't been charged yet.
a German judge that is very influential has said the same thing. They charge if they have compelling evidence of a crime, they haven't charged so it can't be compelling. A charge has to set out what was done, by who, where and when. If the evidence they have doesn't do those 4 things they can't charge....maybe for years.

How Madeleine suspect slept in my attic | Daily Mail Online

It says he went to live with him shortly after MM disappeared. Not very specific but would have to assume this is the period he had registration of the vehicle given after he left they never saw each other again.
thank you.
so, the landlord had use of the jag for three months. but also, within a month of MBM disappearing CB turns up in foral.

and at some point, CB acquires the Winnebago? as he had that in foral. a Winnebago is an expensive vehicle.

and, then after three months CB has to get back to germany again to pick up the jag?

also:
"...the Jaguar, which Brueckner had hitched up to his camper van and driven to north Germany"
that camper van did well to pull a jag from the algarve to northern germany. would have also been a very distinctive sight wherever it stopped.

I agree, but I think it’s so difficult to charge someone for murder without a body, if they had found a blood stained jumper in his wardrobe and a blood stained knife under his pillow, maybe it would be easier to charge him despite finding no body. But we know evidence such as that isn’t likely to be found 13 years later. I can see why it’s ridiculously hard for them to charge him as of yet. Especially in Germany as they seem a little more strict than the UK for example.

personally, I don’t think the German police would bring this case to our attention again after all these years if they didn’t have some pretty significant evidence he done it, but we will have to wait and see.

You don't know what evidence they have.
In addition, they have received plenty of new information as a result of going public, some of which may prove to be crucial. It may even lead to his conviction of other unsolved crimes.

Same as! Could there be any significance in the fact that the McCann's lawyer is going to Germany to see the evidence or is that just general security protocol? I suppose they couldn't just email a witness statement to him?
