If it's just a rope tow, would you not need somebody in it to steer and brake?
ETA
And if so, why not drive it? Confused as to how a camper van tows a car
Oh ok, you can get a trolley that lifts the front wheels

The last paragraph is interesting SY issued misleading info - Perhaps that's why there's lack of trust.

German police say 'getting the culprit' takes priority over sharing evidence with the McCann family

German prosecutors have written to Madeleine McCann’s parents to say that "getting the culprit is more important than putting our cards on the table".

Police in the northern city of Braunschweig are investigating the disappearance of the British three-year-old and have said they have “concrete evidence” she is dead.

But they have repeatedly refused to share specific details with her family of what the evidence is until they are able to charge their prime suspect, Christian Brückner.

Brückner was first publicly linked to Madeleine two weeks ago when Braunschweig police made an appeal for more information on his whereabouts the night she went missing.

The authorities are unable to charge the 43-year-old convicted paedophile with Madeleine’s murder with the evidence they currently have, but have insisted their case against him is “90 per cent” there.

Hans Christian Wolters, one the German prosecutors leading the investigation into Madeleine’s case, said he “sympathises” with Kate and Gerry McCann’s desire to know what new evidence has been recovered on their daughter’s fate but a successful case against Brückner is “more important”.

Speaking in his Braunschweig office on Monday, Mr Wolters said: "We have written to the McCanns again because we are closely following and monitoring what has been going on in the media. We have really considered the fact that it is going to be very hard for the family when we tell them that we assume Madeleine is dead.

“But we can’t say why she is dead. It is more important that we are successful and we are able to get the culprit as opposed to just putting our cards on the table and tell them why we think she might be.

“I know it would be of relief to the parents to know how she died but it would hamper the investigation if we give away too much information."

Mr Wolters's correspondence to the McCanns came as their Portuguese lawyer Rogerio Alves demanded a meeting with police in Portugal in a bid to establish what new evidence there is that Madeleine is dead.
The family has become increasingly frustrated at the lack of transparency in the joint British-German-Portuguese investigation, said Mr Alves, who is due to meet with officers from the Policia Judiciaria in Lisbon this week.

“I intend to meet the Portuguese police in the next few days and try to find out what information they have that can support the reopening of the file here,” Mr Alves said.

“At this time, what I hope is that everybody helps to find the truth instead of hiding information, or keeping information for themselves.

“This is not a competition between the police departments. We all have to go forwards to find the truth.

“I intend to get answers on these matters this week.”

However the German authorities on Monday insisted that the evidence has not been shared with either Scotland Yard or the Portuguese police.

In Portugal, it has been reported that police have been “undertaking tasks which include work on wells near a house Christian Brueckner lived in in the south of Portugal.”

Weekly newspaper Sol said: “The aim is to ascertain whether there exists any possibility the British girl’s body could have been left there.”

On Monday, the Telegraph confirmed that police have not yet visited the site.

A police source said: “No field work has taken place. We are analysing the places he lived and his movements to try and establish where a body could be. This includes the farmhouse. Without a body the case is much harder."

Scotland Yard - which has been running a £12 million investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance since 2012 - issued misleading information on Brückner’s Jaguar in their appeal earlier this month it emerged on Monday.

The force incorrectly claimed the vehicle was in Portugal at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance. However Mr Wolters confirmed it was in Germany by May 4, the day after Madeleine vanished, meaning it is unlikely that it could have been involved in the abduction.
The information about the Jag being in Portugal while being re-registered came out right at the beginning. Why is it only today they are now saying it was in Germany on the 4th? New evidence maybe. Was the Jag on some journey on the 3rd/4th?

This is all tying my brain in knots... I can't seem to fathom or apply logic to make sense of it atm x

That is quite amazing! The amount of tabloid speculation that started and got people thinking him re-registering that vehicle was evidence must have been huge.

SY should be charged with wasting WebSleuths time!

The camper had a tow bar, so maybe a trailer. Unless it was driven back?

I’ve just read down to the lower part of the Telegraph’s article and am surprised to read that the Jaguar was in Germany on 4th May, not as previously stated by Scotland Yard, as remaining in Portugal.
I thought the reason they wanted info on it was because the registration had been transferred to a German citizen but the car remained in Portugal.

“ Scotland Yard - which has been running a £12 million investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance since 2012 - issued misleading information on Brückner’s Jaguar in their appeal earlier this month it emerged on Monday.

I’m really quite baffled by this U turn. I thought the reason that Scotland Yard even considered CB as a suspect was because the Jaguar was reregistered in Germany the day after Madeleine’s disappearance. Would CB have to have been in Germany to reregister the car or could someone else have done it for him?

About a 28 hour drive.

Another interesting quote in the Telegraph article -

"However the German authorities on Monday insisted that the evidence has not been shared with either Scotland Yard or the Portuguese police."

This would seem to imply that the evidence the Potugese declared as very significant and important is not even the "trump card" evidence the German LE have that convinces them that CB murdered MM.

Would seem a lot more likely that it was driven. And after all, it wouldn't be hard to persuade a friend to drive it I'd have thought. Or drive the camper while he drove it. All a bit suspect IMO

ETA
Unless he was on the run with MM. Then it would make some sense

ETA
Actually, no it wouldn't, he could easily have been stopped by LE

Good point!

Its at least a 28 hour journey, so it wouldn't have got there by 4th May imo.

He could have arranged to move the car to Germany knowing that he was very soon going to be there himself?! Forward planning!

Surely they must mean today as the article has only just come out? Why refer to last week when they know there has been developments with the PJ since then. Also, it did seem a little odd to give the PJ this evidence and not SY.
