but this is the prosecutor trying to keep the story in the media, not the parents. by essentially telling the same piece of information slightly differently each day. it is certainly causing confusion + frustration here, so i imagine it is also causing frustration + confusion to their suspect. maybe that is another reason behind this.

german LE are also coming at this from a different direction - they have a person of interest already in jail and are looking at possible further crimes he may have committed. MBM is not really their only case of interest.
previously PJ and the MET had a missing person's case, and were trying to find a specific person of interest for that case.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that the German police have become more definitive about Madeleine being dead since Brueckner lawyered up and said he wouldn’t talk unless they gave him the evidence. It was in their interest to keep it ambiguous before, in the hope he might incriminate himself e.g. “yes I took her and gave her to a family who desperately wanted a child”. Far less likely for him to talk if he knows that they know she is dead. There’s a bit of a game going on.
