Found Deceased Mai Vue, missing from San Francisco since 10/31/24 - last seen near Grove/ Larkin in SF.

More than 1 review (linked up thread) for AW shows claim opening acts have started around 9:00 with Mr. Walkers set beginning @ approx. 12:30am going til 2:30am but no one has yet to reviewed his show of Oct 31 2024. However, it is a rave so it makes sense - starts late & ends in the wee hours.

ETA: however, it may depend on the venue fwiw.

Thank you for that correction.

It seems that being outside at 11 pm is very early. Possibly a break/intermission?

The family has been doing their own searches, but nothing from the police. Has anyone dug up info if they're doing searches? Be on the lookout etc. other than that poster we've seen?

If you search her name on Facebook, there is a post that shares where she was coming from that explains why she was last seen there (answered my own question! ).

There is also information about a later phone ping, which doesn’t sound promising, but not sure I can bring that information here.
Found a similar name on Facebook in sacramento, but definitely not her. Where did you find it?

The only info I found on Facebook was searching mai vue missing. I wonder why they say she was last seen in the area of Grove and Larkin Streets. If she got a rideshare to the Golden Gate Bridge area wouldn't the driver be the last person to see her? MOO

Would love to to know what the people she was with that night have to say.
This is what saddens me. The public outcry has been from her sister... who did not attend the show.

There have been no best friends or boyfriend who have spoken out publicly. There hasn't been a piece on sfgate about it. (Our local news site.)

It reminds me of Dami Kim who went missing in San Mateo, to date there's been no update on that.

I disagree with the characterization of the event as a rave for the simple reason that any true rave isn't so well publicized. EDM does not a rave make. I think the term is used as a disparagement in this circumstance and gives an incorrect impression of the event and the people involved. IMO

So, question. Since the family has been searching intensely around there...I think it's fair to believe/speculate that they think she jumped or harmed herself there.

The Golden Gate Bridge suicide barriers extend 20 feet out and below the bridge, and are not easily seen by pedestrians or cyclists. There have been four deaths since the nets were fully installed earlier this year. People who fall on the nets can still jump off them, but they are intended to sting/hurt/stop them.

But the pedestrian gates (automatically) close at 9:00 pm. Is it possible for anyone to sneak out onto there after they're shut? Or are there other areas around the bridge to jump off?

Yohanes Kidane was mentioned earlier, but that happened in August 2023 (before the nets were fully installed) and he was at the bridge at 8 pm (before the pedestrian gates would have closed).

There are now 7 reviews /firsthand accounts from the show that Mai attended. In that, it has been revealed that Alan took the stage at 10pm and performed until midnight.

Where was Mai at 11pm????

Yes, It is possible to sneak out there. The area near the welcome center is VERY dark at night and there’s no one watching the gates. Also, the nets do not cover every square foot around the bridge-there are some remaining gaps (though those would be hard, if not impossible, to see at night).

That said, this case is so concerning and puzzling because Mai is not from San Francisco, and this was her first EDM event.

They have certainly not provided very much information about her state of mind at the time of her disappearance, but I would be really interested in knowing:
-whether Mai was known to have ingested any substances that night;
-whether Mai has any mental health history that would lead her family to think immediately of suicidal risk that would place her at higher risk of a manic episode (especially if she ingested substances, since amphetamines and MDA/MDMA can trigger mania in susceptible individuals);
-whether she had a fight with her boyfriend or friends that evening;
-whether she actually took an Uber to the bridge area;
-whether there was an interview with the Uber driver and whether she was alone if in fact she did take a car out there.

We here at WS know very, very little about her disappearance.
I hope she’s found safe, but seems less and less likely with each passing day.

Anthony Kidanes was found about 2 weeks after his disappearance; if she’s out there, I truly hope she is located soon.

She was found, deceased. On Thanksgiving by Police Divers.

So so sad for family and friends, I hope the family is able to comfort each other- seems like a loving community.
Oddly, both of these articles only use a social media post by Mai's sister as a source; I still haven't found any official confirmation of this. I'm not implying that the information is inaccurate, just strange that in the six days since this discovery happened there's been no word from San Francisco police, whose divers recovered the body.

I also find it strange -and cruelly unfair- how some missing person cases (e.g., Hannah Kobayashi) get so much traction and publicity, while others such as Mai go largely ignored. Since her disappearance Mai's case was barely reported on outside Bay Area media -and even locally was only in the news cycle for a few days after her Halloween night disappearance- and her thread here on WS is only two pages long. Granted there was hardly any information to go on, but it's still sad.

Yeah, it’s a good point and a difficult truth. We have so very many suicides in the Bay Area—from the bridges and into the bay — that local protocol is to downplay them to supposedly prevent others from following suit. When officials suspect suicide, the missing go very quietly. It’s a practice I question (I.e., it doesn’t really seem all that helpful, and seems so cynical and sad), but that’s how these kinds of cases are handled around here. I’m guessing there was more information provided to LE than we civilians could know, so beyond the initial reports,

RIP Mai Sai. You weren’t and aren’t forgotten.

There was a specific year, that I have since forgotten in my old age, that it was decided that suicides off the Golden Gate would no longer be covered by the media, out of fear of copy cats. I'm sad Mai has been found deceased, but I had a feeling she had jumped. I hope she is at peace now.

They stopped keeping an official count in 1995. 1,000TH SUCCUMBS TO MORBID ALLURE OF GOLDEN GATE LEAP I'm not sure if there was a specific date or time when the media decided to cease coverage.
