My husband just called me from San Diego. He's in the barracks while his ship is in dry dock. Says horns are honking and sirens are going off everywhere and he's not sure how he's going to get any dinner.

Hi Steadfast! My son is out there. I'm not sure if he's at Point Loma or Coronado right now. I tried to reach him earlier to no avail and then got this from the Navy...

Wishing you all a quick resolution to this! Stay cool & stay safe! No power is horrendous! A couple of weeks ago we lost power at 9:15 p.m. It was a record heat day here and what happened was an idiot on a motorcycle was going 100 - 130 mph on a two lane street. Missed his turn and took out a guidewire to the electrical poles... needless to say he died at that speed. We were out all night, but the result was my ac blower motor & hard drive board got fried because of the power surges! Took until yesterday to get it completely fixed. UGH!

Ok so I tookthe tollway home from work in Newport beach which bypasses most everything until it dumpsinto the 5 which was gridlocked. My son was coming from Anaheim so being the good mother I am and having no idea of the magnitude,I called him and told him to stay away from the freeway. Please see pictures of crown valley pkwy in your link. That is prettymuch what I senthim into. I couldn't get Off the freeway because the exit ramps were backedup for miles due to lights at the bottom of the ramps not working. I did think of one exit with no light at the bottom and was able to exit finally.

Cause of Widespread Outage Under Investigation
APS Works to Restore Service to Customers in Yuma Area

The outage appears to be related to a procedure an APS employee was carrying out in the North Gila substation, which is located northeast of Yuma. Operating and
protection protocols typically would have isolated the resulting outage to the Yuma area. The reason that did not occur in this case will be the focal point of the investigation into the event, which already is under way.

Sounds like many are getting their power back on gradually and they know the cause isn't terroristic. Later!

Be safe power outage people! Hope it's back on soon for all.

I went through this power outage in FL, 1989, and it was sooo cold! Scary when stores are closed & no power when it's below freezing. I think it was in the low 20's! We eventually had power about every 45 minutes for about 15 minutes at a time. That lasted a couple of days or so. Brrr...but we laughed and played lots of cards. Bummer the convience store did not have coffee either though.

Many areas are getting power back.

The radio said 3 million without power in San Diego, not counting Mexicali, nor AZ. This is a big one.

They also said lots of power being used due to the high heat in CA & AZ overwhelmed the system. Need to build more transmission lines. They need to add more lines between CA & AZ. When the power plant went down in AZ, it was restarted too soon. Basically, the switch was flipped too fast...?

Feds will investigate. Sounds like a lot of finger pointing but this needs to be fix.

Actually, I feel bad that I was so concerned about the outage when Texas is getting ravaged by fires, the east coast by storms...this was actually nothing compared to what those people are going through.

Oh it's SO good to be back. Power went out around 4:00, and just came back on (2:00 AM). It wasn't so bad. I had 5 gallons of water on hand, cash, lots of food, batteries. The only drawback was the heat and not enough gas in the car should I needed to get outta here. I was SHOCKED at how many people were not prepared. Just for giggles (and there wasn't anything else to do) we walked over to the shops, and 1 grocer was open. There were at least 100 people in the store buying water, batteries, food, etc. There was also 1 lone teller manually adding up all these items. SNAP!

It was nice to know we could survive should anything happen like this. I was pretty stressed though because first there were plenty of rumours it was sabatoge, and of course not knowing what time it would be back on. While we were out walking we popped in to the local liquor store and I bought a bottle of wine (eek). The gentleman was nice enough to give me a really nice bottle for only 11.00. I haven't seen anyone try to rip anyone off yet.

The SD School District closed school today (geez...it only started on Tuesday).

So I thought I'd check in just to say hello, and pray our power stays on.

Huggers,

Mel
