Question -- do I have to throw out all my food :( I went shopping the other day and have meats, eggs, milk, mayo in the fridge. I have a bag of ice in the freeze and it's still rock solid. The fridge seems a lot warmer. I only opened the fridge once yesterday.

GAHHHH!!!

Yeah, it makes you realize how you should keep all those things on hand (extra batteries, water, etc). Glad it's back on for you Melanie.

Hopefully nobody dies from it, but some probably will in AZ - especially the elderly. Such a burden to carry for the person responsible for it.

I remember living in SD during the "rolling blackouts" under Grey Davis' tenure. Still makes me laugh. That was a pathetic time for sure.

Power back on for most in Ariz., Calif. and Mexico
---
A decade after California faced rolling blackouts that shutdown everything from ATMs to traffic signals, Thursday's outage raised anew questions about the condition of the nation's electricity grid.

Authorities were focused Friday on trying to figure out how a mistake by a single Arizona Public Service Co. worker making a routine repair in Yuma, Ariz., could cascade across the Southwest.

They are referring to the electrical worker as
Homer.
I got a good belly laugh out of that.

To err on the side of caution I got rid of the eggs, bacon, mayo in the fridge. The freezer was fine as it's really small and packed, so everything stayed frozen. Once the power came on I squished the ice cream and it was still hard. But I wasn't so positive about the fridge.

So if in doubt, throw it out!

There's also a link at the site regarding the food you should toss.

Mel

PS: most of our stores are still closed today so they can go through the freezers and toss out food. Needless to say, Homer has caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in food losses in the county.
