As it has been reported two persons were traveling on false passports. One of these passports may have been Danish as the destination of the passenger was Copenhagen. In Danish newspapers it has been reported that 35,000 Danish passports have been reported stolen or missing.
But that is not the worse. 10 years ago the Danish government outsourced the handling of various databases handling driver’s license, the police records and other secret information to private firms. One of the firms was foreign and they started a conflict with the employees to get the salaries lowered. While the conflict was going on they imported specialists from India and violated the rules by allowing these specialists to work on the databases without security clearance.
Because the software was extremely complicated the replacement workers made a mistake allowing everyone on the Internet to see and copy all records for 5 months because the security issue was discovered and solved.
So we Danes are all concerned about someone else might have taken our identities.
I am not stating that the disappearance of the plane has something to do with stolen passports or is a result of a crime. But the lack of control with stolen or missing passports has to be dealt with. Otherwise it could prove dangerous to be tourist in the future.
