"The official replied that the Malaysian military was assisting investigations "at a high level."
Pressed repeatedly on what information the military had given authorities, he finally replied that "now is not the time" to reveal it.
The exchange boosted theories among the families that there are ongoing secret negotiations with terrorists who had hijacked the plane.
Adding to this was the official's earlier statement that Malaysia hopes that the passengers are alive."

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian police dismissed claims Wednesday that they doctored photographs of two Iranians who boarded a missing airliner with stolen passports — saying one man’s legs were spliced over the other’s in a photocopying error.

police spokeswoman Asmawati Ahmad said the odd appearance of the photos stemmed from a police staff member placing one on top of the other when photocopying them.

“It was not done with malice or to mislead,” she told AFP.

She said this had been explained to some news photographers when the photos were handed out.

The error fuelled criticism of Malaysian authorities, who are accused of blundering and making contradictory statements since the plane went missing en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing early Saturday.

MISSING MH370: China says SAR efforts expanded to land areas

BEIJING: China's air force will add two planes to the search for a missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner, the country's civil aviation chief said on Wednesday, adding that search and rescue efforts would be broadened to include land areas.

This is just crazy. I feel so sad for these families. I do not believe anything in the media, not due to medias fault either. I wonder how Malaysia airlines are doing.

On the primary radar spotting: "Today we are still not sure it is the same aircraft. That is why we are searching two areas." MH370

malcolmmoore ‏@MalcolmMoore 42m
Why don't they know which other aircraft were in the area? Surely they must know by now. MH370

malcolmmoore ‏@MalcolmMoore 41m
These Malaysian officials are having a hard time explaining themselves

malcolmmoore ‏@MalcolmMoore 40m
I think they just admitted no one was watching their military radar, only saw blip when they checked records afterwards MH370

THE search and rescue effort for missing flight MH370 is now focusing on two areas - the South China Sea and Straits of Malacca.

Malaysia's acting Transport Minister Hussein Hishammuddin said 49 ships and 32 aircraft were divided between the two areas covering more than 27,000 square nautical miles - 12,000-plus in the Straits of Malacca and 14,000 in the South China Sea.

The search now involves 12 countries with India, Japan and Brunei the latest to come on board.

The Minister said "the way forward" was to bring more experts, noting Malaysia was now working with Boeing, the US Federal Aviation and US National Transport Safety Board.

According to the airline sites I've been reading, it's common for radar contact to be lost after leaving land areas. Apparently it's a myth that airplanes are in constant radar contact with air traffic controllers. They rely on radio transmissions with other aircraft after leaving radar zones. These transmissions are then sent to the air traffic controllers who plot them on the radar maps.

Here you go--found the link about this (other good info on this site, too):

A couple of notions here/ For commercial aviation that is true. But I would think in terms of military tracking it would be different i.s cant have a inter cont ballastic missle hurling towards a land mass being tracked interimently!

And the intial change in course yesterday was back toward land and areas with several airports. IMO, (missles again) I would think even if we were dead center of the biggest body of water on earth in an emergency like this a military agency would be capable of playing back tapes just imo

Well one thing is sure: it is not just us that are thinking they are making contradictory statements - the whole world does!!!! because they are!

Interesting about the photos of the Iranians being scrutinized as well......honestly the world is hanging out for every bit of info that the Malaysian authorities can give re a missing airplane with 239 people on it, that may have disappeared due to terrorism or hijacking and they release pictures like that!!!! You'd think that any pictures and info they are giving would be checked thoroughly in a situation like this.

I also find it interesting about what they have said about the military information but think it is the wrong time to release that info.

The New York Times cited Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad, spokesman for the Prime Minister's office, as saying that he had checked with senior military officials, who told him there was no evidence that the plane had flown back over the Malay Peninsula to the Straits of Malacca, only that it may have attempted to turn back.

But the air force chief Gen. Rodzali Daud didn't go as far as denying that the plane had traveled hundreds of miles off course. The air force is still "examining and analyzing all possibilities as regards to the airliner's flight paths subsequent to its disappearance," he said in a statement Wednesday. Rodzali said it "would not be appropriate" for the air force to "issue any official conclusions as to the aircraft's flight path until a high amount of certainty and verification is achieved."

At the news briefing Wednesday, Rodzali and other officials said it wasn't yet clear if an object that showed up in military radar records flying over the sea northwest of the Malaysian coast early Saturday was the missing plane.

The officials said they are asking experts from the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority and National Transportation Safety Board to help them analyze the radar data.

Vietnamese authorities, who have been heavily involved in the search, appeared to be showing increasing frustration Wednesday with the information coming from the Malaysian side.

For the moment, Vietnamese teams will stop searching the sea south of Ca Mau province, the southern tip of Vietnam, and shift the focus to areas east of Ca Mau, said Doan Luu, the director of international affairs at the Vietnamese Civil Aviation Authority.

Doan also told CNN that Vietnam has asked Malaysian authorities to clarify which location is the focus of their search, but that it has yet to hear back.

Respectfully, I think the media has been awful. Like all of us here, they should be coming up with the sme questions and asking them and then confronting all the slimey taking this back and that etc etc

Media job is to hold govt accountable to the people and in this mess they have particpated in doing nothing other than confusing everyone by not fact checking before uploading! Just my opin!

The tweets from a passenger who claims to have missed boarding Malaysia Airlines flight MH370

Going by the name “Kaiden IV”, the passenger claims he and his companion Rory were booked on the plane but were held up for personal reasons.
He told how his anger turned to relief upon learning he’d avoided what has become one of the biggest aviation mysteries in history.

Kaiden made desperate attempts to contact his partner via Twitter, assuring her he was safe, and, most importantly, alive.
His partner, author Cylithria Dubois, has posted a statement about the incident on her website The Ghostly Writer .

One of the four who didn't show for the flight. Seriously, I think I saw her on an episode of house hunters.
