I would guess that part of the delay on the part of the Chinese could be that they don't want to let it be known the resolution of their spy satellite cameras. This would be very highly classified info. I am guessing that if they have released these photos, they are NOT the clearest that they have.

But... where did they get the lifejacket, if on a plane? Like I posted above, commercial airlines don't have the room and extra weight capacity to carry foam lifejackets/PFD's for a couple of hundred people. They use inflatable ones (which don't stay inflated for this long...) or the seat cushions. Not so sure it's from this plane.

do they have them in the cockpit for the pilot/co-pilot? do they have others in the galley for the flight attendants?

CNN is very reliable. It has been a 24 hour news station in the United States for ions. The Equivalent would be CNN International.

CNN read the AV Herald, (or WS) imo. Pictures/article were on WS before CNN

Chinese satellites can see down to 2.5 meters by 2.5 meters. Those released are far less than their capability.

From what I've been told, you could read the image of a newspaper picked up by satellite. I imagine the image would be much less clear if the object being photographed is underwater. For the sake of the family members, I hope we have some answers soon.

I tend to believe that the Chinese reports are accurate. I believe they waited so long to release this information because they wanted to make sure 'their ducks were all in a row' before they made this info public.

do we know what kind of life jacket they were talking about? I've missed this whole conversation, I was out all day.

" Confusion over whether the plane had been seen flying west prompted speculation that different arms of the government might have different opinions about its location, or even that authorities were holding back information.

Earlier in the week, Malaysia's head of civil aviation, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, was asked why the Strait of Malacca was being searched and replied, "There are things I can tell you, and things I can't," suggesting that the government wasn't being completely transparent.

If all those on board are confirmed dead, it would be the deadliest commercial air accident in 10 years.

What else would be floating in the ocean measuring 72' x 79'?

Plus, China would be the one who knows the most about everything IYKWIM.

And I'm jumping the gun, but I just pray that having this info sooner would not have meant a different outcome for the passengers and crew.

There's all kinds of stuff floating around out in the Pacific. Huge pieces of debris from the Japanese tsunami washed up on the Oregon and Washington coasts in 2012. I agree it's unlikely the Chinese government would come forward with this info unless they were quite certain, but the possibility does exist that it's not related.

Hoping for answers for the sake of the families/friends of the people on the plane.

I hope someone is on the way to the potential plane debris shown in the Chinese images. I don't know who is coordinating the various search parties, but I hope they don't screw this up. The US commander speaking on CNN said his gang was heading south in the Strait of Malacca if I heard correctly.

This totally throws out the u-turn theory.

Maybe, probably. I was just wondering if the radar caught a big enough piece of the plane moving in the opposite direction, would the radar reading people view that as the whole plane having "turned" around? I know it has been said by US officials that there was no "explosion" from their research done. But if the plane broke apart for some reason and the metal pieces went scattering in the air, would a big enough piece show up on radar?

Is the water still shallow there where the Chinese images are?

It was said the object on the radar blip was lower and was was traveling slower than a plane. Speculators imply a drone

WOW! I agree with that too!

Sum ting wong. I haven't heard or seen yet, but I would hope since the Chinese has had the images since Sunday, that they were shared with searchers, and just not released to the public until today. :twocents:

But if this was the case then we would have heard that stuff was found.

Isabelle posted a reason why a few posts ago: "Studying, verifying, collaborating. Possibly did not want to jump the gun!"

Unless and until the Malaysian government/military requested assistance, no one wanted to intrude or impose theories on the investigation. Hopefully, there will be lessons learned in this case that can be rectified for the future.

I don't think the article ever mentioned that. It just said that a body was found wearing a life vest.

On one crash they passed over the sight 3 times before they even found anything. jmo
