South Yarmouth motel worker arrested on child charges

SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. (AP) -

Robert E. Laplante was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Barnstable District Court on three counts: possessing child , enticing a child under 16 and posing a child in the nude.

Police said they also found dozens of Barbie dolls and a collection of newspaper clippings of JonBenet Ramsey, the 6-year-old Colorado girl who was found murdered in Colorado in 1996.

The FBI was assisting in the investigation.

Police said Robert Laplante, 45, took nude pictures of a young girl inside his home.

Authorities said more charges against Laplante could follow after what they found inside of his home. Police said they found hundreds of pieces of evidence -- including dressed up dolls, pornographic pictures of young girls, CD-ROMs, cameras and computer systems.

On Monday, an elderly couple seen at LaPlante's home would not comment directly on the case, but, Boyd reported, the man said LaPlante had been a good son.

Police say their investigation suggests that LaPlante, 45, and his victim knew each other.

Don't laugh Shylock. This guy's a serious suspect. Here's proof: LaPlante reportedly asked the judge to reduce his bail from $250,000 to $118,000, because that's all he had. He said it was in his attache -- all in 100's and 20's.
