Accused child sex offender reportedly castrates himself in jail
TOOELE COUNTY (ABC4 News) – An accused child rapist locked up at the Tooele County Detention Center apparently took justice into his own hands with a shocking and brutal form of self-punishment.
Mark Swan, 48, of Grantsville, is facing 24 charges of child sex abuse involving five different victims.
“We had an inmate (Mark Swan) who self mutilated themselves on Sunday August 25th with a secreted razor. The inmate received treatment for his wounds at a local hospital and has returned to the Tooele County Detention Center.”
Lt. Clinton did not elaborate on Swan’s self-inflicted injuries citing HIPAA laws but two sources told ABC4 News that Swan castrated himself in his cell.

Police began investigating Mark Swan, 48, after a parent came forward on Thursday and said a family acquaintance had inappropriately touched their three children, according to a police probable cause statement for his arrest. The investigating officer describes Swan in the statement as "a serial abuser with many victims coming forward."
Swan was arrested for investigation of 37 charges, including 10 counts of rape of a child, 10 counts of object rape of a child and 10 counts of sodomy of a child. The probable cause statement details allegations that Swan sexually abused three children.

Police believe one of the victims has been being raped by Swan over the last four years.
Police served a search warrant at Swan’s home and reportedly found “multiple items the victims mentioned during their disclosures.”
