Man falls 2,000 feet out of plane off Florida coast; search on

Ocean rescue teams are searching for a man who fell out of a plane 2,000 feet in the air off the Florida coast Thursday afternoon.

A pilot reported about 1:30 p.m. that the door of his Piper PA-46 Malibu aircraft was ajar and that somebody had fallen out, Coast Guard 7th District Public Affairs Spc. Mark Barney told the Los Angeles Times.

It's a six seat plane. The door is more like a hatch. It is two pieces the top half has to open before the bottom. There is no seat beside the door there is on on each side of door. Found a video on the mmopa website it shows the planes and seating and the door.

Not to make light of a tragedy, but as a Florida native I can say that if I had to live there, I'd jump out of plane, too.

Maybe he had a medical condition that made him confused. I remember once I was sleep walking, which is not that big of a deal, but I ended up in another room, trying to open a closet. Which was stuck, eventually someone heard me. Hope they find the guy.

PS - to me, the pilot does not sound all that distressed....
