They found what appeared, to them, to be components of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) including a watch with wires, fuses, and a toggle switch. All the components were there except for an explosive. During the inspection they also found that the man's boots had been altered. The man had stuffed layers of insoles into his boots like shoe bomber Richard Reid had done.
