Marine Father Sues Church Protesters

What blows my mind is one of the Phelps daughters is an attorney. I only know of these nut-nuts from them speaking on the Stern show. Comes to light that part of the family want nothing to do with them. I wonder why?

These protestors are disgusting..I promise if they ever showed up at a funeral for one of my loved ones they would be carried away in body bags themselves. Protesting funerals should be illegal.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom to be heard. They can say whatever they want, put on a play, with god hates 🤬🤬🤬🤬 as the key theme. But when they try to force others to hear them by using a funeral as their platform - that's not protected free speech. You can say what you want - but not anywhere you want. As with the classic "Fire" in a theater, or "Bomb" in an airport.

The devil you say!

Hit the nail on its proverbial head; the point at which one violates human dignity by forcing others to have to hear him is the stopping point. In this case the 11 million stopping point.

Well said.

I agree. Protesting funerals should be illegal.

Freedom to have your own opinion and say what you want is one thing....but they should not be allowed to disrupt or disturb a funeral any more than they should be able to force their way into your house or stand on your lawn and shout at you if you don't want them there. If they want their say they can say it at their church or the local courthouse lawn...but not at or near the cemetery during the service.

Anyone who wants to do this is hatefull anyway. What kind of God do they think wants them to chant hate at crying grieving families????? It's just the most heartless thing I have ever heard of and I just can't imagine the mind set of the people doing it. Much less that they manage to get crowds of protesters to attend. How can you look at a grieving family and do anything that awfull to them and still call yourself a human being?

How would they like it if people chose to attend the funerals of their family members and use that as a platform to protest against Christianity ?

These people (and I use the term lightly) are not behaving in anything resembling a Christian fashion. Their message is one of hate and evil.

I think more than one is an attorney. You'd think that more of his family wouldn't want anything to do with him, but I think only a couple have broken away from the clan. He's one scary man and it's sickening to see what he's done to his children and grandchildren.

What I wish is that the media would just not cover any of their protests. They crave that and if it were gone, maybe they'd be gone also. At least I hope they would.

We see these people all the time. If they have nothing else "planned" they just show up around town and stand on a corner with their signs. My kids all went to KU and they'd even show up on campus.

They crave attention and will do anything to get it.

Luv, you see them like standing out holding signs? Really? I'd so have to say something. Like you mentioned though it's what they want. Attention. More than one attorney? Looks like Papa Phelps rules like the Iron Fist. I have to google him to see what he looks like. So, due to freedom of speech they are permitted on a campus as well too I guess? I'd love to get a few of my friends in Drag go out there and counter protest them. They'd knock them clowns out pronto. Spiked heels and all.

Here's an article I found about the family (and those that left).

http://cjonline.com/webindepth/phelps/stories/080394_phelps02.shtml

The first few times I saw them I said something to them, but that's what they want. They want to get a reaction from people, so now when I see them, I just ignore them. We've seen them after all the KU graduations we've been to. Traffic tends to come to a standstill and there they are...right on a corner waving their signs. I've gotten to the point that I don't even look up. I find something else to look at...anything but look at them.

I just wish the media would quit covering their "events." It's the media coverage they crave. Without it, they'd be nothing. They are nothing...they are sick...but getting national media coverage makes this guy happy.

I wish this woman and her ilk would just go away...

From the link: "Shirley Phelps-Roper, daughter of Fred Phelps and attorney for his Westboro Baptist Church, said the Kansas high court's ruling was "surprising, but it's lovely."

"They didn't need to invite the Legislature to take another run at what is a lost cause," Phelps-Roper said. "Nothing they put their hands on impacts us, so why keep messing with it?"

What needs to happen is the media needs to quit covering these sickos. They love ALL media coverage. It made me sick to hear about the ruling. They will still picket the funerals. I feel so sad for the families, but I really do think if the media quit coving them, it wouldn't make them stop, but it would make their "mission" less gratifying.

They are sick bunch.

I wonder how they would feel if someone picketted their church ?

"Thee Doth Protest Too Much." (The WBC)

That's all I have to say.

They LOVE it. It justifies their mission.

The main reason they feel so "justified" is that someone tried to blow up their church in the early '90s. They have twisted that event into what they are today.

These people truly go against all reason.

They'd love it because that the attention they want. Think of a child throwing a temper tantrum...if no one watches, then it defeats the purpose. All they want is attention...them picketing, and if someone picketed them, they'd like that also.

I just ignore them when I see them. I don't speak to them, I don't give them dirty looks, I simply act as if they aren't there. And that's what I wish the media would do.

THANKS you guys, ignoring would make sense.. You are right, the media plays a big part in how this world is becoming, and it's not pretty .. My 2 cents..

We see them all the time, and trust me, I've wanted to yell at them and picket their church. They even hang around the college my kids attended. It's sickening what they are doing, but it's child abuse, IMO, what they are doing to their children. He's a modern-day Hitler. It's too bad the kids can't be taken from them, but I know that won't happen.
