Wow this is pretty crazy. Every single one of these jurors has a very legitimate reason to not be able to serve. Some can’t understand English enough, one with a husband recently put on a defibrillator, one that is about to have surgery and won’t be mobile, many that can’t afford to miss work, many teachers that are worried about FSA standardized testing and missing pay, post office workers that won’t be paid for their time out, a man that works in the jail that can not afford to miss work. Some that have scheduled plane trips or vacation. Someone with a trip planned that says they have childhood trauma and “that person over there reminds me of someone on the news”. A few college students that say they would miss nursing program classes, etc. They are now giving jury members an opportunity to speak privately about possible medical issues they don’t want to discuss openly. Having them approach the bench with council.

Potential jurors are answering why serving on a 5-week trial would present a hardship for them.

One potential juror said they suffer from childhood trauma. The potential juror then pointed at Mark Sievers and said, "that person over there looks like someone from the news."

We have a Lee county schools bus attendant that is going to contact her employer to see if she can be paid during the trial. We have two students checking with teachers to see if they can’t work around missing class. A few jurors supposed to be double-checking with work/pay issues. We have a juror upset about missing a play at noon today in downtown Fort Myers. The judge is proposing for her to leave and come back tomorrow. They are allowing it.
Jury is back in.

The judge just notified jurors who are free to go, The sound has some feedback problems. I know it was more than 20 let go so far.
They are now talking to the ones left, the two students about finals, a employee about missing work deadlines, the bus driver attendant confirmed she will be paid to be here, the teacher will be paid for her absence, another man that will be paid for his leave.
Now going over the case allegations.

Judge asking jurors if anyone knows the judge, defendant, attorneys. A juror said she knows Mark Sievers daughters. She has known them for six years and says it would be difficult to be fair and impartial.

After the first round of questions for today’s new group of 50 potential jurors, about 20 people were just sent home. Now talking about facts of the case, one woman admitted she has a relationship with #MarkSievers daughters. #SieversTrial @winknews
