I remember reading an article and it was said that both Jefferson Airplane and the Stones were petrified of being there because of the stage set-up and location, it was supposed to be held somewhere else but was changed at the last minute to Altamont.
The Stones said when they were coming in on the helicopter there was just an ominous feeling with the whole thing and they were truly scared. They had reason to be as Meridith Hunter was the man stabbed and killed when all was said and done.
