Dont remember who who said pls let it be an accident as getting landed with live - creepy cause now passenger descriptions - really only two options , brake failure OR no brakes applied at all.

Based on what now getting from those aboard - no slowing above are the only two options if you think about it

wanna find out locmotive info

That must've been terrifying to watch.

One lady who was on the platform talked about it...hearing people shout "run" as it came into the station because it didn't slow down. As they ran, people fell and were almost trampled. She also reported seeing many injured.

What a beautiful terminal!!! I just can't imagine having track endings perpendicular to this building, which is often occupied by passengers and workers. Like in the medical field, many believe nothing could ever go/be wrong with the way a machine operates. Sad, but a very poor plan for track layout.

The Comet V railcar is the fifth generation of the Comet railcar series. ,,,,,,,,,,,anufacturer Alstom, the Comet V is a much different type of car compared to previous versions of the series. ....olitan area commuter rail operators New Jersey Transitand Metro-North in April 2002.[SUP][1]

[/SUP]
The main design of the Comet V is similar to its predecessors starting with the Comet III................each trailer car has six doors for entering and exiting (like the Comet IV, the cab cars have five doors); the doors at the ends of the car are single-leaf with trap doors for low-level boarding .........

those in the middle are double-leaf but lack steps and trapdoors, only opening at high platform stations. The length of the cars at 85 feet (25.9 m) o........... width adheres to the standard loading gauge of 10.5 feet (3.2 m).[SUP][2][/SUP]

The one unique feature of ........... is the lack of steps and a trapdoor at the door in the vestibule opposite the engineer's operating position. Like the Comet IV, the engineer's side of the cab vestibule has no door.

One prominent problem of the Comet V is failures in its door-opening mechanism. On the Comet V, Alstom added a new button to open vestibule doors that lead to the end doors labeled with "push to open."[SUP][3][/SUP] This led to confusion among passengers about how to open the doors; eventually many resorted to opening them manually.....[SUP]][/SUP] The Comet V's software glitches came to light as doors failed to open or malfunctioned.[SUP][4]

Tom Costello on MSNBC just used the T word. Not that it is, but has to be looked at.

Having trouble with thanks button today. So thanks everyone in advance.

Train has a pedal as a "dead man switch".

ETA: Earlier I said 50,000 people use the station--just heard a figure of 15,000, so I might have misunderstood the number.

NBC - comparing to Philadelphia crash 18 months ago.

Hi Bette!

They can removed and repair tracks, and wrecked cars etc pretty quick - IMO this is gonna be quite a mess for commuters for some time I would thing.

They are gonna have to deal with a bunch of rail line inspectations before they can open the terminal , it looks like there are a like 5 lines right next to each other so it would seem that it make this (after car removal) like 5x as long.

I guess they are gonna have to rebuld 5 lines instead of one in the other crash not sure if I am visually "seeing" that all the tracks are right next to each other tho

I am throwing a temper tantrum now , (arms flailing, yelling, screaming, pounding on the table, throwing my NTSB reports all over ha!) I want my NTSB, cant wait to see who is lead .

First Brdigegate, and now this -poor NJ!

Just saw this on the news the photos on Fox News Instagram look horrific. Those who have died and are injured are in my prayers. It must have been a terrible shock for people when it happened. All news updates are greatly appreciated it looks like a tragic accident at this point.

First post, longtime lurker. I love you guys.
MOO, but I find it suspect that:
1. This happened at the busiest time of the day at the busiest station in the country.
2. Today is 9/29. 2+9=11. Symbolism?
Seems IG is filtering tags??
Again, MOO. I sure hope I am wrong. And praying for the victims and families.
