A day before COVID restrictions lift in Massachusetts, active cases drop to 7,314; hospitalizations to 241
Active COVID cases continued to decline in Massachusetts on Friday ahead of restrictions lifting over the weekend
Officials reported that there are now 7,314 active infections, down from 7,843 on Thursday, data shows.
State health officials also confirmed another 253 new COVID-19 cases on Friday.
Officials also reported 4 more COVID-related fatalities, bringing the death toll from the pandemic up to 17,495.
The seven-day average of positive tests is .74%, down from 0.8% reported the day before.
The number of COVID patients currently hospitalized on Friday is 241, down from 253 the day before. Of them, 74 are in intensive care, and 40 are intubated, data shows.
There have been a total of 7,748,396 COVID vaccine doses administered in Massachusetts to date, and 3,599,402 residents are now fully vaccinated. Roughly 59% of the state have received at least one dose, and 51% are now fully vaccinated.
As COVID activity continues to return to summer levels, the number of Massachusetts communities at high risk for COVID transmission now stands at one: Tisbury. During the peak of the second surge over the winter, more than 220 cities and towns were at the highest risk for spread.
