GUILTY MD - Damaris 'Alexandra' Reyes, 15, found murdered, Gaithersburg, 10 Dec 2016

It seems like this MS13 gang kills and rapes more of their own members than doing these deeds to other gangs.

Plus mom said she heard from daughter on the 6th. So was this by phone or text.

This is the same gang that was responsible for the rash of murders in Long Island (?) recently as well.

Teen charged in Va. gang slaying told victim she’d ‘see her in hell,’ according to testimony
Venus. Romero. Iraheta.

The young MS-13 associate listed her full name before plunging the knife into the 15-year-old girl, so Damaris A. Reyes Rivas would know who killed her, an FBI agent testified Thursday. Iraheta, 17, blamed the Gaithersburg teen for the killing of her boyfriend just a week earlier and wanted revenge.

(..,)

At the heart of the cases, Uribe testified, was a love triangle of sorts. Iraheta and Damaris both had relationships with 21-year-old Christian Sosa Rivas, who authorities say was killed by MS-13 associates along the Potomac River in Dumfries around New Year’s Eve. (...) Iraheta blamed Damaris for helping lure Sosa Rivas to the spot where he was killed.

(...) Uribe testified that Iraheta told him she began to beat Damaris and question her about what happened to Sosa Rivas and the nature of their relationship. Uribe testified that Rivas also told him that he kicked Damaris in the head.

(...)

Iraheta stabbed Damaris’s abdomen and neck 13 times as she lay on the ground, according to testimony. She also allegedly sliced a diamond tattoo off Damaris that the teen had gotten as a reminder of Sosa Rivas, a person familiar with the case said.

A search warrant in the case states that her attackers took videos of Damaris’s dying moments, and one was so brazen that he was wearing a court-ordered GPS monitoring bracelet from a previous offense. Wilmer A. Sanchez-Serrano, 21, who also had a preliminary hearing Thursday, plunged a large sharpened stick into Damaris’s neck at one point, Uribe testified.

I don't understand why a group of MS-13 members killed Damaris over a guy's murder, when the article states that he was targeted by MS-13 leaders in the first place. I get why Venus was upset, but it says there were 10 people involved.

Honestly, I don't get it either :(

In my opinion, the answer to the question of "why?" is extremely complex. I think it may have something to do with the mob mentality. Also, these youngsters are drawn to the violence & to the sense of family/camaraderie the gang provides (even temporarily) and any excuse they can find to prove how dangerous/powerful they are and how committed to the group they are, they jump on it (not even caring about the "why"). If that makes sense.

WASHINGTON — The teenager who disappeared for a month last year, only to be charged with a brutal gang-related murder on her return, was sentenced to 40 years in prison Friday.

Venus Iraheta, 18, of Alexandria, pleaded guilty in January to charges of first-degree murder, abduction and gang participation in the death of Damaris Reyes Rivas, 15, last year. She faced a maximum sentence of life in prison on the murder charge, 10 years each on the others.
Iraheta was 17 when she disappeared for a month in January 2017. Her return was captured live in February of that year while her mother was being interviewed by WTOP’s news partner, NBC Washington.

By the next morning, she was one of 10 people ultimately charged in connection with the death of Rivas, of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Her body was found near Lake Accotink Park, in Springfield, Virginia, in February 2017; the police said at the time that they believed she’d been killed in January.
