ABINGDON, Md. - They had suffered in silence, but when a pair of young boys came to the Sports Clips hair salon in Abingdon, a stylist became alarmed at what she found---evidence one of the child’s hair had been burned.

Helgason has a story of prior child abuse incidents and domestic violence charges, which prompted his wife to seek a divorce, yet seven of their children remained in his custody.

June 2012 - charges dropped.

"It was for the children. They are too traumatized to be able to testify," Deputy State's Attorney Diana Brooks, who was prosecuting the case, said Monday afternoon...

The two children who were involved in the alleged incident are in foster care, Brooks said. Helgason has eight children. He was found guilty of second-degree assault in 2006 and child abuse in 1998, according to court records.
