James Shipe Sr., 70, is in custody, held without bond, and police said investigators believe there could be more victims.

Police said Shipe raped at least five women between 1978 and 1986 in Baltimore County. Authorities said evidence that tied Shipe to the crimes comes from the Greater Baltimore Medical Center's Slide Project.

New charging documents reveal a pattern. The incidents involve a white man, often in a dark blue windbreaker, entering through ground-level apartment windows or unlocked doors and threatening to hurt victims, raping them, and disconnecting phone cords when leaving. Each rape happened within a one-mile radius of each other in Cockeysville off Cranbrook Road.

Before now, Shipe previously faced a charge in 1979 for assault with intent to rape. He was also arrested in 1998 for a trespassing "peeping Tom" incident in the same area as the five rape cases.

Ode to Dr. Rudiger Breitenecker, who had the foresight to start saving DNA from SA cases as early as the 1970s. Incredible!
