GUILTY MD - Jayna Murray, 30, found murdered, Bethesda, 11 March 2011

IMO, there is a huge problem with the defense's claim that JM was killed during a fight that escalated. JM's injuries were so much more severe and extensive than BN's injuries. It just doesn't add up to a "fight" that intensified. JM's injuries, IMO, add up to a sustained and vicious attack in which she struggled in vain to escape her attacker.

ME is testifying, and the list and amount of injuries is horrifying, as is the ME opinion that the victim was alive for nearly the whole attack and would have suffered tremendously,

this was not a fight, it was a systematic and brutal attack, with differing weapons used,

This is what makes me think it is somewhat racially motivated. I don't want to discuss it or try to explain it but it's just a gut feeling I have. This was a hate filled attack. The attacker wanted to hurt this woman as much as possible and would not stop despite all the pleadings. She wasn't on drugs, she wasn't insanse so why? This is not the normal reaction of someone busted for stealing. This was a hate crime and I do think the woman hated her because she was a beautiful white girl who had a great family and was for all intents living the "American Dream" while the perp felt she had to steal and lie to get by.

state has rested

and it seems defence will not prevent a CIC, so closings and jury instructions and then the jury gets the case

Chewy, I agree that the level of brutality suggests something more than retaliation for being caught stealing. It indicates, to me at least, that BN had a lot of pent up rage and JM became the target of that rage. The level of brutality involved in this murder is so extreme that it's impossible to comprehend the motivation, IMO.

But one thing JM's injuries tell me: this was premeditated. One doesn't switch from one weapon to another without thinking about it first. BN knew what she was doing. And, IMO, she not only wanted to kill JM, she wanted her to suffer. Let's hope BN gets LWOP because I think she's capable of killing again.

Been reading live tweets and Google news alerts today. The hardest part of this to swallow is not even that Jayna was alive through 331 wounds, but after all that, it was finally stab to her brain that killed her. It's just so very chilling.

Deity of choice, bless her - still alive through that many wounds. What a fighter.

But one of the men got control over Norwood, she said. He used plastic zip ties to bind her knees and arms and cut her pants. The man sounded white and used a racial slur.

Her memories of the fictitious attacks were scattered.

Why is this murder not considered a Hate Crime? I am stunned . . .

Very happy this evil woman will most likely spend the rest of her life in prison. Sentencing for Norwood is scheduled for January 27.

Killer's parents asks judge for mercy

Unbelievable! The parents call BN a "good" and "caring" person. After she beat someone to death! I understand unconditional love but these folks appear to be in deep denial. Well, we'll see what the judge says tomorrow.

"Larkita Norwood talked about how she was sorry for everything that happened, and how she's praying for the Murray family.I must tell you that my heart is also broken for Jayna's family. As a mother, I can only imagine how painful this is."

Oh really? Well your daughter is alive, easy for you to say.Jayna was brutally murdered your daughter is not a good person. Some people are just ridiculous.

Life without parole. Good.

More than 330 distinct wounds?! Five different weapons used?!

Unbelievable.

Wasn't this just over stealing. I mean what would make her do all that. :waitasec:

I don't know if that was determined to be the actual motive. In an article, I saw that BN's brother had asked whether she (Jayna) had accused her of shoplifting, and BN said she hadn't taken anything.

The intensity of the attack, the hatred, it seemed more personal. IMO

I am just reading articles about this.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/a-homicide-in-bethesda/2011/10/21/gIQAe5vl4L_graphic.html

According to this article, they left at 9:45. Minutes later, Jayna called a manager about finding clothing in BN's bad earlier that day. BN calls Jayna saying she left her wallet in the store and needs Jayna to go back in.

I would have copied/pasted it but it's protected text.
