I am not on facebook, but my son is, and he is here today, so I will let him look at the links for me.
I was a teacher at NHS and I knew both Jeannie and John. About 5 years ago, I was in a nail salon in Dunkirk and two former students (ladies) from Northern came in. We struck up a conversation and one of them mentioned that Jeannie Ratino was murdered. (as opposed to missing) I said that I knew. Now I am wondering why I said that, because at the time I DID know that Jeannie was missing and I did NOT know for sure that she had been murdered. My feeling today is that she probably is dead, because more than likely she would have contacted someone in her family over the years.

Since you are local to the case, do you remember this being in the newspaper? Is there anyway you can check your local library and see if they have old newspaper articles about Jeannie being missing?

I might be able to do that. There were two locals newspapers in the county at the time she disappeared. That actually may have been how I came to know about this. Love the WELCOME gif:-)

I checked the classmates yearbooks for 1982 and 1983. I see that John Allen and Jeannie Ratino were juniors in 1982, but there is no senior picture for John Allen in 1983. I remember where he was living with his mother around 1982 or 83. I am not sure that I taught either one of them, but I may have. I taught for 30 years and I taught many, many young people, plus I knew many from the halls and cafeteria. So sometimes it gets blurry. LOL

Thank you! It would be so awesome if you can get some copies of old articles and find a way to share them here (have your son help upload them if you are not a techie person-- I'm not techie and understand, lol).

If you can get these articles it may bring more attention to her case. Getting Jeanette more media attention means more people and organizations help looking for her. She already has been put into one of the major missing persons databases-- Charley Project. We need to get her case info in more places online (two other missing pages that are big are NAMUS and Doe Network). This is a bit of a gruesome thought but there is a possibility she has already been found but was unidentified at the time if she was found outside of Calvert County, MD. There are many people here that try to match up unidentified persons with the missing. There are also professional search organizations that will volunteer their time and resources to the police if they need to search a certain area (like Jeanette's family farm) but those groups usually work on cases with a lot of media attention. Bottom line is the more people who see her case, the better.

When Jeannie brought charges against John for battery, her address was listed as 5200 Bayside Road
That is a wooded area with a dirt driveway leading back into the woods.
I do not know how many homes were there in 1986. Being afraid of trespassing, I did not go back there. I couldn’t see any homes from the road.
I wonder if police searched those woods.

What are your thoughts on her possibly being Slidell Jane Doe? idk the cases just seemed super similar

I think they look very similar. It would make sense, since Jeanette does not seem to be in NamUs.

Also, Jeanette was the complainant in a battery charge. That could explain the numerous scars and broken bones on the Slidell Jane Doe.

Very likely that she is NOT our gal. This may mean the MA addresses are not her as well (but I haven't run those down yet). Sorry for the false lead. I should have dug more before posting but those addresses popped up as "Ancestry suggestions" possibly connected to the marriage license. Suggestions don't always mean it's the same person and are usually based on which records others searching have viewed on Ancestry. Sorry! :facepalm:

I am impressed with y'all! I found that right before she went missing she had charges of theft, forgery, UNLAWFUL MFGR ETC, UNLAWFUL POSSESSION ETC, HINDERING/OBSTRUCTING. Maybe she was trying to avoid jail time and hit the road. You could do that in the 80's ... hope states and change her name perhaps?

She married a Korean man with the last name Yang on 9 Aug 1983 in Arlington, VA. Her middle name is given as Florence in the record, which may indicate Allen is an alternate last name for her and not her given middle name. I'm pretty sure this is her because her father's name (Joseph Ratino) is listed on the record and she gives a current address in North Beach, MD which is located in Calvert County. Jeanette lists her place of birth as Washington DC and her date of birth as June 7, 1965.

Public records show Jeanette Yang with a PO box in Williamstown, MA (1989) and an address in Stoughton, MA (1993) and Renton, WA (1991). However these records do not necessarily indicate she lived at these addresses on these dates. Her husband may have updated her address and had her mail forwarded when he moved to all these places. Or she may have lived in some of these places previously and the dates are carried over from old accounts not closed. The dates on public address records are usually not accurate/do not always reflect when a person actually lived in a place.

Looks like she was going by Jeanette Y Smith after Yang with a Redmond, WA address. Married to Carter D Smith.

I know I'm bumping a two year old thread but I've only just discovered this case and I'd care for you to elaborate please? I have a feeling what you're getting at.
