Man Sentenced To 40 Years In Shaking Death Of Girlfriend's Infant Son
On May 25, 2016, police responded at around 11 p.m. to the University of Maryland Hospital to investigate a report of child abuse.
McBride and the victim’s mother had transported the 6-month-old infant to the hospital where medical staff diagnosed the victim with several injuries, including a seizure, retinal hemorrhaging, traumatic brain injury and rib fractures.
After four months of intensive care, Cannady passed away on September 24, 2016. The victim was 10-months-old.
The victim’s death was ruled a homicide September 25, 2016.
McBride was arrested on August 15, 2017.
He was sentenced to 40 years in prison with all but 20 years suspended and five years of supervised probation.
He was also sentenced to serve a five-year concurrent sentence for a domestic violence incident in March 2017 involving the victim’s mother.

34 year-old Father Arrested for Murder of 6 month-old Son
On March 25, 2016 at approximately 3:15 p.m., 6 month-old Kahlil Cannady was taken to University Hospital with obvious signs of trauma to his head. Cannady was pronounced dead a short time later and his body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy would be performed.
On October 12, 2016, doctors from the Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that Kahlil Cannady’s death resulted from blunt force trauma, and that he had been murdered.
Homicide detectives investigated this murder, identified a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.
On August 15, 2017, detectives from the Warrant Apprehension Task Force arrested Cannady’s father, 34 year-old Cornelius McBride, at his home in the 2300 block of Calverton Heights.
Cornelius McBride has been charged with 1st and 2nd Degree Murder and Child Abuse. McBride was transported to Central Booking where he is currently waiting to see a court commissioner.
