Ouch that hurt reading how the reporter described him as incompetent. I don’t understand the firecracker and his nerves part, is that really how his medical problems started?

I mean, it was the 1940s. That's unfortunately how mental health matters were reported at the time.

He could have just pointed at the ice, and when asked about the burns he might have just said "bad boy". I doubt he was able to say a lot more.

True. And is it possible he wasn't referring to other boys, but repeated something often said TO him. Like when he was being burned.

So very sad, but I agree. God, I want to solve this case but it pains me because I do genuinely think it'll end up in Crownsville.
