GUILTY MD - Officer Jacai Colson, 28, killed in ambush-style attack, Landover, 13 March 2016

What is going on?!?!?
This sounds like a gang thing. Imagine the cred someone would get for shooting an officer in the station.

Possibly, but I think this murder has a socio-political angle.

We have been lucky here in the US in that deliberate and unprovoked attacks on law enforcement by criminal gangs are very rare. I can only think of a few examples including a biker gang murdering a judge and a white prison gang murdering a prison administrator. This could well be because such murders bring far more police attention to the criminals and impacts tjheir other activities.

In the meantime, there have been more unprovoked attacks on police in recent years by terrorists (muslim extremists, as well as by locally produced left and right wing political extremists). As the death of police is the sole goal of terrorists, they dont care about the intense and focused police attention.

Just two weeks ago in the Washington Times:

Of 14 line-of-duty deaths of law enforcement officers recorded in the first two months of 2016, 11 were the result of a gun being used against the officer. As of this time last year, only one of the 15 officers’ deaths was firearm-related, which implies greater willingness on the part of offenders to go after the cops.
...
At least one of this year’s killings appears to be an ambush attack. Officer Thomas Cottrell of the Danville Police Department in Ohio was fatally shot Jan. 17 by a man who officials said was “looking to kill an officer.”
...
“It is not just talk; it is not just rhetoric. Those spewing this hatred and those calling for violence are having an impact,” Mr. Canterbury wrote in an FOP announcement. “They have been given a platform by the media to convey the message that police officers are their enemy and it is time to attack that enemy There is a very real and very deliberate campaign to terrorize our nation’s law enforcement officers.”

Grandmother of the suspects says they weren't involved. "Deidre Ramos, 60, of Hyattsville, told The Post that she was the Ford brothers’ grandmother and confirmed their arrest. But she said police had the wrong men."

“They weren’t involved,” she said.

And their aunt chimes in: "“I apologize if that’s the case, but all lives matter. Where is my nephew?”

The evidence shows the gunman intended to die during a gun battle with police.

.

I don't believe this a political statement per se. I think the murderer(s) were just home-grown trash.

Hmm....but there were two guys. One ran off.

Good point. And not just two guys. From post #67 above, there are 3 suspects, all brothers — at least, according to unnamed police officials.

What, one guy wanted to commit suicide by cop, and he convinced his two brothers to go along to help?

I don't think I buy the suicide-by-cop theory. It makes sense for one person acting alone, but not for 3 people acting together.

I was skeptical, but it does appear to be the case.

"Three brothers were taken into custody forthe fatal shooting of a Maryland police officer— a killing brought on by one brother's failed attempt at a filmed suicide by cop, police said."

The family is sharing that the oldest brother has mental health issues.

Filmed? Filmed????!!!!! WTF?

It sounds like all 3 brothers have mental health issues. Who-in-heck goes along on a suicide-by-cop mission to record their brother getting himself killed on purpose?

The grandmother's statement is odd given that they have the film from the brothers.

"Police said one brother fired at officers outside a police station— fatally striking Colson— while the other brothers recorded the ambush on their phones." ~Daily News

There is a pc @ 5pm. The news here just mentioned we will find out if there is a possibility that LEO Colson may have been shot by another officer. I pray this is not the case.
