What are these folks to do who were not part of this. No access to needed medications etc. etc. I shudder to think what drugs are floating out on the streets as well.

My friend who is clergy in Baltimore posted a message early this morning that he was heading out to help with clean-up and rebuilding. There will be people on the lookout for others in need, but it's a MESS.

1. You can't believe what Fox News says.

2. Did you even read past the headline? That was the clarification that she did not say that.

"What she is saying within this statement was that there was an effort to give the peaceful demonstrators room to conduct their peaceful protests on Saturday. Unfortunately, as a result of providing the peaceful demonstrators with the space to share their message, that also meant that those seeking to incite violence also had the space to operate. The police sought to balance the rights of the peaceful demonstrators against the need to step in against those who were seeking to create violence.

The mayor is not saying that she asked police to give space to people who sought to create violence. Any suggestion otherwise would be a misinterpretation of her statement."

Is it just me or does a curfew seem silly ? I mean I get the point is they can arrest anyone out after 10 pm. But it seems if people are willing to assault police officers and commit arson and theft, then a curfew is like jaywalking, right? I guess we'll see what tonight holds.
Anyone have an update on the LEO's , specifically the unresponsive one ? tia

ugh - i'd have to go back & watch the mayor's weekend news conference, but iirc she answered that question very curtly = practices & procedures (i think) which i took as "code/bible" doj mandate.

edit - not in her weekend news conference - i'll take a look at the next one

First, I was not being sarcastic. I was genuinely complimenting you on what I thought was a clever neologism. I've been using it ever since.

But the English language has over one millions words! If the "ug word" has come to be associated unfairly with one group, there are plenty of other words we can employ.

And for the record, after years in academia, I am happy to say that reports of "political correctness" have been greatly exaggerated. The First Amendment does not govern a private website. Word usage here at WS is decided by the owner and moderators. But if there is to be a vote, then I say only African Americans should be allowed to cast ballots.
Sorry. Elite Academia is a driving force behind political correctness. This country is now one big melting pot of perpetually offended people.

How does a city fire a mayor?

embezzlement for one.

On January 6, 2010, then-Mayor Sheila Dixon announced, following her conviction for embezzlement, that she would resign from office, effective February 4, 2010. Per the Charter of Baltimore City, in the case of a mayoral vacancy, the sitting city council president shall automatically succeed the vacating mayor and serve the remainder of the term.[7] Consequently, following Dixon's resignation on February 4, 2010, Rawlings-Blake became mayor of Baltimore City.[9]

She was elected to the office on the next election but she sorta kinda came by it because of the former mayors shenanigans.

Today is a new day. I'm hoping the people come out to clean up and show that Baltimore will not accept a destroyed city. It will take more than one day to fix this situation, for ALL involved, but using fingers to help clean up rather than point to each other in blame is the work to be done today. Tomorrow, there will be more work.

You don't have to believe what Fox News said. The link I provided you with has a video.
If you bothered to watch it, you would see with your own two eyes what mayor said.

Unfortunately, she did not say "unfortunately." She didn't even explain what she meant when she was asked last night. She just denied saying it altogether. The tapes are out there, you don't have to take anyone's word for it.

.....
POLICE DOGS/HORSES===I fail to see how either would have any effect upon a crowd of a thousand angry rioters
.......

SBM

Just an aside...DH is a big soccer fan and says that the police horses in front of soccer stadiums (Europe) really put the fear of god into the hooligans....(Hooligans is actually a name for the non-fans who travel strictly to cause trouble at games) Dogs too....It's just how it plays out on TV....it doesn't look good at all...but is effective.

LOL at trying to spin what the mayor said and blame Fox News when the video clearly shows exactly what she said......

I wouldn't want horses to be put in harms way. Especially if rioters are throwing rocks.
