Let's see the media show the strong advocacy that is alive and well in Baltimore and not keep repeating the rioting scenes.

Let's see more of Brandon Scott, the City Councilman who is a strong advocate for youth. Munir Bahar who founded the 300 Men March in Baltimore and COR (Committed, Organized, Responsible), a true leader who has worked for years mentoring youth in the Baltimore community and this morning has organized men to gather as clean up crews, to gather for strategies today to stop this violence and bring safety and calm to this community.

Let's see these community leaders who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes and on the scenes on national television. They deserve not only recognition for their courageous and strong advocacy but more importantly because they are the grass roots there, they know exactly where and what is needed. Let's see the politicians listen to these important community leaders. I know I want to listen to them.

Sending prayers to all in Baltimore.

My friend who is clergy in Baltimore posted a message early this morning that he was heading out to help with clean-up and rebuilding. There will be people on the lookout for others in need, but it's a MESS.

Bless him and the others I just saw on CNN with brooms and shovels in hand. I wish those who were arrested were forced to clean up.

You don't have to believe what Fox News said. The link I provided you with has a video.
If you bothered to watch it, you would see with your own two eyes what mayor said.

I did watch it. She said exactly word for word what I quoted there. Maybe you should watch it, rather then just reading the false Fox News headline.

You might need to have your eyes checked. Everybody can watch the video and see that what you are claiming simply isn't accurate.

Here's what bugs me lately. The peaceful protests from a few days ago got little to no coverage, but the violence got ALL the headlines.

The media is only showing us the violence, why? I feel it's deeper than just "violence gets attention". I think the media is choosing what America gets to see happening, creating an image of POC that isn't truth. JMHO.

LOL at trying to spin what the mayor said and blame Fox News when the video clearly shows exactly what she said......

That’s not what she said, IMHO. The mayor is saying that giving people space to exercise their first amendment rights is risky, because doing so also creates opportunities for protestors to become destructive. She erred on the side of letting people demonstrate. They want to allow space for the actual peaceful protesters. At the same time, the space provided for peaceful protests gives room for those who intend only to incite violence.

MOO.

Only that's not what she said. She hasn't mentioned either risky or unfortunate in her speech.

And that - right there - my friend is the rub.

Media loves ratings and violence in the streets gets them ratings. IDK what the answer is. But people are tired and fed up. It seems the "undesirables" know that if they "act up" it will get coverage and maybe their voice will be heard.
How do we fix this?
IDK but you are right - violence always gets the coverage.

Exactly. She said what she said: why some are trying to whitewash it now is beyond me. "We also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well." Her EXACT words.

I was giving my opinion. I did not say she said those exact words. But since you brought it up, here is exactly what she said in the short video linked above:

I've made it very clear that I worked with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech. It's a very delicate balancing act because while we try to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that, as well. We work very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to de-escalate and that's what you saw.

I just do not hear the mayor saying give them room to destroy, which is the insinutation many others are making. You cannot pick and choose phrases. The whole statement needs to be considered. MOO.

Baltimore Mayor: ‘I Never Said… That We Are Giving People Space To Destroy Our City’
April 28, 2015 6:42 AM

WASHINGTON — After Baltimore’s first round of rowdy protests on Saturday, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake came under fire for saying that the city gave people “who wished to destroy” space to do so.
“I worked with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech,” Rawlings-Blake said to the media Saturday evening.
“It’s a very delicate balancing act because while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.”

She did say it. If she meant something else, it certainly didn't come through.

She said it. Whether you can hear it or not is another story.
