I think the media DID distort her message...it seemed to me that she was regretting that she gave the demonstrators space and that in that space rioters also appeared. She seems to be in way over her head, frankly.

How did the media distort her message? Her words and she owns them.

Dude right now is thanking the bloods, crips and BG because they said they would no longer hurt "our people". He also wants 60 billion to repair the city.

LOL

It now seems this mayor ain't making no friends on either side. One guy talking with the reporter is upset at her for calling the kids of Baltimore the "T" word yesterday. And yes, she did, I saw that presser myself and kinda thought she shouldn't be using such "off-color" words in her position.

She needs to just "stand down".......... IMHO

So they are just some silly kids just up to playful shenanigans? Those kids did learn a lesson yesterday, they got the better of BPD. Sad.

I do not think she intended to say that space was being made for rioters but rather that the space set aside for the protesters was filled up by the rioters. Again, it was poorly worded and she was very much in the wrong to allow the protesters that much space. Also wrong to continually refuse the offer of the Natnl Guard til it was far too late.
I don't think she is 'in on it', she is just again in way over her head.

The media jumped on her continual denial on using the words. She distorted her own message by focusing on the wrong battle - which words she used or didn't use - as opposed to letting that battle slide and moving on. I hope it's a lesson she learns well.

And if she misspoke she needs to correct that, not accuse the media of distorting her words. As I listen to her speak I almost feel as if she's been coached, it's more like she empathizes with the protesters. She should be thinking about the innocent parties that have been harmed by this, economically and physically.

I agree. She was fighting the wrong battle. She should have taken ownership of the poor wording, admitted she worded it improperly and moved on. People would accept that. But calling out the media for twisting her words purposely just makes enemies out of those she needs in the future, imo.

So they will play to an empty and silent stadium.............. Ok ... sounds like a great idea.

Television, radio and the internet reach a much larger audience than the ball park can seat.

Play Ball!

I'll agree but those folks sitting at home watching tv are NOT buying beer, pretzels, hot dogs and parking passes. It's a curious thing for sure.

Only 60 Billion? I'm sure investors are itching to build buildings so rioters can burn them down. Not

Maybe Maryland tax payers can foot the bill, they won't mind.

Well, they could start a g*fun*m* account, see who ponies up.

It definitely hurts the local economy and specifically the local stadium workers. It hurts the parking lot workers and the ushers and the concession workers and most of them are probably local low income residents. JMO

LOL, I just listened to it again and he said if they say there has been 60 million in damages then they should give them 60 billion to rebuild.

I didn't quite get the logic:thinking:

She needs to have an official spokesperson ... like everyone else and stay away from microphones. :)

Media has her on the ropes lol, they won't let her back off now. And if she tries media will portray herr as not caring about her city. Seen it happen before.

Sorry if this has been posted - I haven't had a chance to catch up with this thread. This mom is amazing...and scary. I'd just go home if she told me to.

I hear you. Though, considering the situation, even if the public were allowed in how many do you think would actually go?

They're averaging 33 thousand a game this year so far..... http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BAL/attend.shtml

At least this way they won't be losing the advertising revenue and it won't affect the standings sometime in the future if the Orioles are contenders later this season.

Plus it sends the message that they aren't going to allow civil unrest to keep them from going to work.

In fact, I hope they have tremendous ratings as a show of support for Mr. Gray's mom's request in not being violent. I am going to listen to the game for that very reason. Something I can do from afar.
