An 11-year-old girl, Paxton Davis, is facing a first-degree child abuse charge after she assaulted a 1-year-old boy she was babysitting in Maryland, leaving him with injuries so severe, he died days later.

Paxton was left in the care of the 11-year-old’s family members at their home in Suitland. The girl’s mother left Paxton alone with her daughter briefly to run an errand Sunday morning, police said. In the state of Maryland, you have to be at least 13 to watch another child.

The motive is unclear. The 11-year-old is being held at a juvenile facility. While the two families are not related, they are on friendly terms and Paxton has spent time at the house before.

An 11-year-old girl has been charged with first-degree child abuse resulting in death after she allegedly assaulted a 1-year-old she was left to care for, police said.

Prince George’s County police are not naming the girl who was arrested because she is being charged as a juvenile, but they said the victim was Paxton Davis of 19th Street in Southeast Washington.

The girl charged is being held at a juvenile detention facility, police said.

Relatives of the 11-year-old returned home and found Paxton injured and called 911. He was rushed to Children’s National Medical Center in the District.

County police detectives responded to the hospital around 3:25 p.m. on Sunday for a report of an injured baby. The baby was suffering from severe upper body trauma and died Thursday from the injuries, police said.

The 11-year-old girl has admitted to assaulting the boy during that period, but police declined to say whether a weapon was used.

When the mother came home, she called 911 and the baby was taken to a local hospital with "severe injuries to his upper body.

His mother Tanya Davis told WRC-TV about the emotional moment she and Paxton's other mom, Shonte Jennings, decided to let their baby go.

“I got in the room for a second by myself," Davis said, "and I talked to him and I said, 'Baby, you don’t have to fight no more.'"

The mothers said that they were initially told Paxton had fallen, but police later determined it was clear the injuries were "not consistent with the normal play of a 1-year-old," said the Prince George’s County Police Department.

According to police, the girl "admitted to assaulting the baby causing the fatal injuries."

Jennings said she had always suspected there was more to the story. "A cracked skull and you fell off a bed? It didn't line up," she said.

"I texted her, the mother, and she made it seem like she was there with my baby the whole time," a tearful Davis said.

Paxton had just turned 1 on Feb. 8.

Paxton's mothers want to see the 11-year-old's mother charged as well. Police are not commenting on possible charges for the mother.

There are some terrifying children out there !
Sadly, because of their age --they often receive meds, counseling, and therapy.
Regardless if this girl does some time in juvenile detention --most likely she'll be out by 18 and it's doubtful she'll be safe around anyone.
It's horrible to think what she might do to her own child/children --if she decides to have any.
