Why did DB drink and smoke with PB?
When I got there Thursday night, searching for her, I found out that there was a listing of 20 different guys going in and out, I found out through her sister, when I approached her, how I didn`t appreciate it that I find out that since she`s been here, you`ve allowed her to drink alcohol, you`ve allowed her to smoke marijuana, and her half sister said it only happened one time and it allowed her to open up to me. So you have to get her drunk to open up to you. She`s 16 years old. She can`t handle alcohol. She`s too young for all of this action, all of that activity. So when I found out about all of that when I got there, I was -- I was stunned. I was devastated.

Why did LE search that dumpster on PB's birthday?

JEAN CASAREZ, HLN CORRESPONDENT: Well, the search is one of the last people to have been in that apartment, and remember, they said there were 20 people going in and out of that apartment during the time that Phylicia was there. 12 of them, they believe, are persons of interest. They have executed some search warrants, but a backpack from one of those 12 went into that dumpster and they searched the dumpster to see if there was anything of forensic value.

GRACE: OK. Explain to me about the backpack.

CASAREZ: The backpack, they found in the dumpster, it appears as though there may not have been anything of forensic value, but authorities are not saying all that they know. But they`re doing anything they can to find any clue of where she was, because she left her debit card and merely took a cell phone that hasn`t worked, been on since she disappeared.

JS: I was under the impression that she was a full-time nursing student, full-time employee working as a pharmacist assistant and had her own apartment and that was the influence that I wanted my daughter around, a positive influence. And it turned out to be all deceit, all lies, and she knew if I would have known all of those activities, my daughter would not have been there.

JS goes on to say that DB does work for a pharmacy, but she is not in school.

Why is someone's backpack in a dumpster, I'd like to know.

I am so angry with Phylicia's sister...her mom held her temper in control on NG a lot better than I could have done. She is probably exhausted and depleted beyond words. How could her sister let Phylicia down this way? Why couldn't she just take the day off work to spend with her sister, sleep late, take her to the salon, it was supposed to be sister time. Why did the ex have to come by THAT day to get his stuff? Why did the other 19 men have to come by AT ALL?

I am so digusted. I once had a fender bender many years ago with my younger sister in the car and she injured her knee and it took me years to forgive myself, as she was in my care and was several years younger. She died a few years ago and I thought about it again, hoping it was the only time I had let down. I just can't understand her sister's behavior at all. She is an adult, not another teenager.

And not a recent adult, by any means. DB's been an adult for nearly ten years. No excuse, in my book. Really poor judgment on DB's part, IMO.
On several interviews I have watched, JS has indicated she is taking valium to keep from exploding/imploding. It was so hard for them (she and her husband) to be in Baltimore, chasing false lead after false lead, and not being able to talk to people (like MJ) that they went back to NC. I sure feel for them.

This is absolutely heartbreaking.

I do feel that there's something up with the whole 'she was sleeping' story. Why would DB and MJ interject themselves into KB and PB's plans? "Sleeping" is not an excuse to miss a hair appointment, yet they made sure KB knew that so that she wouldn't stop by later or get even more suspicious when she couldn't reach PB.

What ever came of the later text by MJ to DB, that PB was up and active?

I think she was drugged, or OD'd on something they gave her the night before, or that morning or midday. And for why they gave her the drugs, I don't even want to go there... but I think it had something to do with somebody making some money. :(

All MOO.

You got me thinking....I wonder if MJ's "up and active" comment was when he came in the door and heard the music and saw that she wasn't asleep on the couch. so he thought, oh, she's up and active, and texted DB because they had been wondering why she wasn't answering her phone. Then, when he couldn't find her in the apartment, he texted again, uh oh, she is GONE. The up and active text was supposed to be at 5, and the text about her being gone was at 5:10, so that would make sense.

Of course, that all assumes that MJ is on the up and up, and that he was not involved in anything hinky. IMO, that is not a valid assumption.

I've been reading a lot of twitter pages, of people among the 12 POI ( I had no idea some people posted on their twitter 20 or 40 times a day. Yikes!!). I see a lot of references to PB being like a smaller, younger version of Deena. "mini-Dee" if you will. It is so heady for a 16 year old to be accepted into a group of adults like that. IMO it would have been hard for her to not go along with anything they invited her to do.

I agree with a lot of that. But think about it: I think it would take longer than 10 minutes for him to panic that she was gone - like, really gone. His first thought would be that she went to get something to eat or stepped out for a moment. The next thought would be to contact KB and see if she ever came by and got her or made contact with her again. I'm just thinking through a normal sequence of events if you come in and someone isn't sitting there waiting on you.... and there's a shopping center close by, etc. KWIM?

Also, I do think she may have gone along with some things but not all. Kind of like what I think happened to Natalie Holloway: having fun, partying, maybe some drugs, but got in with the wrong person and in way over her head, probably slipped something extra and had a bad reaction. That's where I am right now with this case.

It just breaks my heart to think of her parents... searching, organizing search parties, then going back to NC... :(

Congressmen Seek Help in Finding Missing Teen

It’s an unusual plea for help.

Two congressmen are asking the public to help find a North Carolina teenager who went missing in Maryland.

[snip]

Congressmen Elijah Cummings of Maryland and Larry Kissell of North Carolina issued a joint statement Friday.

They said their thoughts and prayers are with Barnes' family. The lawmakers also urged people to contact Baltimore police immediately if they have any information about the case.

(CNN) -- The mother of a missing 17-year-old honor student from North Carolina said she was stunned to learn that "20 different guys" passed through the home where the girl was staying and that the girl was allowed to drink alcohol while visiting family in Baltimore.

Yes, finally. A private investigator (Don Rondeau?) has pledged his firm's services to PB's family. He is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to her recovery. He is going to be arriving in Baltimore today. He's been posting about it on PB's prayer site on FB.

The Guardian Angels are out in force again today.

RB, PB's father, has posted on the Pray for Phylicia FB page. He says the Barnes family has a new person on board, the man Don Rondeau who is a private investigator. Don also posted on the FB page, saying he spent a productive day with the family working on the case.

No new information in the media that I can find.

Hopefully with this continued, consistent pressure, someone is going to crack.

Whoa. This Don L Rondeau is a big player. He's connected to CNN and that's how he got on the trail? I mean, this guy is a national level, government level security type person. Counter terrorism, etc.

WOW! No kidding Mr. Rondeau is a big player. Check out his list of Letters of Appreciation, Awards & Certificates of Achievement at the above link!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Mr. Rondeau for taking on Phylicia's case!

BBM. Excellent points. This, imo, is where MJ and possibly DB have their time line and chain of events all screwed up. Why would MJ think 'Uh oh, she's gone' ten minutes after arriving home if he had been out all afternoon and had no direct knowledge of Phylicia's where abouts or what happened to PB. There is no logical reason for him to panic so soon.

God, I hope LE is closely scrutinizing MJ's whereabouts between 1-5pm that afternoon.

I wish we knew more about if/how often/when KB attempted to make contact with PB that day. I still think the texts that KB believed were from PB were planted by someone else.

Something else I am having a hard time with. (Kind of a vent). What kind of persons over 25 'party' with a 16 year old? A few of us have shared how we used to party back in the day, but this is 2011. Considering the laws today about people who have lost everything when allowing minors to consume alcohol at their homes who were later in fatal accidents or caused fatal accidents or even the consequences for giving a minor a cigarette, what the he-double hockey sticks was DB thinking?

Even with I was 16 and went to a lot of college parties with my then BFF and her older brother I didn't know anyone in their mid 20's who were interested in drinking or using illegal drugs with teenagers.

I'm flabbergasted DB would have allowed such a large group of people partying in her home after speaking with (lying to imo) Phylicia's mother. AND that she didn't have the common sense to think a guy she is in the process of breaking up with would have ANY sense of responsibility with his friends and around her baby sister.

Sadly my gut is still telling me Phylicia never woke up that morning or if she did she was so ill she needed immediate medical attention. I can easily see MJ or two men carrying her to a car that dogs picked up her scent. The question I have is did the dogs detect anyone else's scent with her? Say MJ's?

Is it possible the dogs tracked her scent from a previous day? Surely PB could have walked out of that apartment fine and to that parking spot a day or two prior to her disappearance.

I'm just having a hard time with loud party the night and possibly into the wee hours of the morning and annoyed neighbors don't notice when everyone has finally left that evening or the following morning. There is no confirmation PB ever left that apartment the day she went missing. No witnesses to it. How did that happen in such a large complex during a holiday when children were on holiday break?

Copied from my previous post for additional thoughts. Was it reported when PB initially started discussing getting her hair done? Was this a conversation she had with anyone aside from DB prior to the day of her disappearance? Or was this something KB first heard of the day of PB's disappearance? Did KB physically speak with PB regarding this hair appointment or was this communicated only electronically?

Phylicia-Barnes.jpg

PB wears her hair straight. Exactly what kind of styling would that take outside of a straightening iron - and why would she need to go have that done professionally? I know sometimes people get their hair straightened via perm, but wouldn't PB have done that prior to going to Baltimore? Most girls are pretty picky about their hair and who does there hair. I know when I was PB's age and well into my late 30's I would only let one hair dresser touch my hair and I'd wait for an appt rather than trying someone new.

I'd like to know more about this alleged hair appointment.
