A 33-year-old Maryland woman with temporary custody of her young niece and nephew has been charged with child abuse that resulted in their deaths after officers found their severely malnourished bodies stuffed in the trunk of her car, according to charging documents.

A Friday police statement said the two dead children are siblings and Nicole Johnson, 33, was their aunt. They identified the youngsters as Joshlyn Johnson, 7, and Larry O’Neil, 5. A statement of probable cause said the severely decomposed body of the girl was found to weigh just 18 pounds. The boy was only 21 pounds at the time of his autopsy.

Well, just dammit.
I guess they were in the way -- mom didn't want'em, and I guess auntie just didn't want'em, either. Who knew kids that age needed to eat and drink? SMH.

What suffering they endured -- and for a long time, I'd say. I'm also guessing they eventually were too weak to wonder why this horror was happening to them.
They are now in no pain and have no hunger.

Hoping he!! is in store for mom and auntie...JMO

And, ridiculous to think about it at my age, if she had pulled into my driveway & declared "I can't take care of these kids any more!" they would be out playing in the yard here at the Laughing homestead.

(Well, OK, I would let Juvenile Court know what was happening & the kids would be with people a few decades younger than me.)

No neighbors, no child care, just award kids to bio family & that's the end of it???

From linked article:

“We will continue to provide every resource to support our Department’s ongoing investigation into this devastating case,” Olszewski said.

D*mn the luck, nobody made sure that Joshlyn & Larry were provided every resource.

Yeah, the resources can relax a bit now that the children are gone -- much less work for them now. Grrrrrr.

But let me say, we don't know how much or if any any resources were consulted in this situation, before their deaths -- but surely either mom or aunt would know or would find out what resources were available.

Why did it have to be this way?!?!? Speechless with flowing tears…

How did no one know those children were that underweight??? An 18-lb 7 year old? I can’t even imagine. :sob: these poor babies.

"I’ll never get to see my kids because a mistake I made in trusting my sister I wish I could take it back but I can’t. I was in the process of getting them back when she just disappeared. I still trusted her and didn’t want to think the worse. This is my blood sister she’s was my family."

The sister just disappeared? So she was missing for a while, while she had custody of two minors? Was no MP report filed? I think the mother is a vulnerable person and she was not able to shake all the trees. But I wonder why no authority was keeping an eye on these kids.

Why... Why did she keep their bodies driving around with them?
It sounds like it didn't rattle her as she kept her personal belongings in that same trunk.

"Documents state that when Johnson went to the trunk of her car to get her belongings, the officer smelled "the unmistakable odor of decomposition." Johnson removed a plastic tote and a clear trash bag from the car. The officer noticed maggots in the clear bag. Johnson claimed that there were just dirty blankets inside the bag."

I'm wondering if she was homeless and kept the bodies so they would not be discovered.

When she opened the trunk she must have known she was likely going to get caught.

Maybe she did live in the car and all her belongings were in the trunk so she felt she had no choice and was hoping the bodies wouldn't be noticed. Perhaps she got used to the smell.

RIP kids, you deserved better.

. That’s what I was thinking, too. If she’d been driving with the bodies in the car since March of 2020, she probably didn’t notice the odor anymore. I wonder if the aunt was getting some type of monthly payments for caring for them and was afraid the $ would stop if the children were deceased? Such a sad story. RIP

Yes, she obviously knew the children would be found (somehow) leading to her "big debut" :(

"When an officer told Johnson that she had to report to court within five days for the various infractions, she reportedly told them she wouldn't be around and they would see her making her “big debut” on the news."

If she wanted those checks she couldn't tell anyone they were dead.
