It sounds like the girl's remains were very decomposed, possibly dead for over a year, hence why she only weighed 18 pounds- That was the weight of her decomposed remains. I wouldn't be surprised if the kids were malnourished, but they very likely weighed more when alive.

The veracity of the article could be put for debate, but the statement as printed states what it states.

Personally, i can't wrap my mind around those numbers, in the context of a human child of typical stature, in any practical sense -- so i don't even try. I simply understand it as horrible and tragic (even if it were that the numbers would be a little different).

Maybe there will be clarification when the case goes to trial. May justice then be done, whatever that might be.

Nicole M Johnson, the aunt, was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Those poor children, and their poor mother!! I hope she knows this wasn't her fault. Of course she should have been able to trust her own sister to keep the children safe!
