GUILTY MD - Turner Nelson, 3, Baltimore, 3 February 2008

Oh for heavens sake. How does throwing your child off a bridge accomplish anything. I would have loved that child and held him close. Why can't we change the adoption laws and not make it so darn difficult for a decent family to take these unwanted children in. It takes years and years to get a child, but it should only take a minute to take that child out of his hands and into a proper home.

RIP Turner.

A West Baltimore man was sentenced to 50 years in prison by a Baltimore Circuit Court judge Friday, nearly three years after he threw his 3-year-old son, Turner Jordan Nelson, off the Key Bridge.

Stephen Todd Nelson, 40, received the maximum sentence available after agreeing to plead guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree child abuse resulting in death...

Julie Drake, the state's attorney's office's felony family violence division chief, described the crime as a vengeful act intended to cause pain to Turner's mother, Natisha Johnson, with whom Turner had disputes over visitation and child support. Drake said Nelson had not spoken of seeing demons before this incident.
