Police in Maryland told the AP that a suspect is in custody in Charlotte in the death of a woman and the disappearance of her 11-year-old son.

Montgomery County Police Spokesperson Rebecca Innocenti said the missing vehicle, a Honda CRV, was also found around 8:30am Thursday in the greater Charlotte area.

The child, William McQuain, 11, was not in the vehicle and is still missing. "A lot of attention is being paid to the person of interest, but we still need help finding this child," she told WBTV by phone.

She would not identify the person of interest or give the exact location where the vehicle was found.

WRC is reporting the boy's dad was arrested in Charlotte, but police have not confirmed that to NewsChannel 36.
Police took the man into custody at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

UPDATE: Police have verified this afternoon that a vehicle and a person of interest in this case, are now in custody in North Carolina. William McQuain is still missing.

Sept. 30, 2011 was a Friday. I wonder what time he was last seen and by whom? If he was at school, it is possible that the murder occurred when he was gone.

Poor little guy. What if he walked in on it or even saw his mother dead? How awful. I really pray they find him safe somewhere.

I can't help but think - the ex-bf quoted (who is a FB friend of mom's and also the complainant in her cases in 1998 iirc) is Will's dad. There is a photo on his page of him and what looks to be Will and perhaps grandma?

The suspect, Curtis Maurice Lopez, 45, was taken into custody in Charlotte, N.C. He was arrested on a murder arrest warrant out of Maryland.

Lopez is McQuain’s husband and the step-father of William McQuain.

I seriously cannot believe no one noticed him missing before now... my own son is smack in the middle of youth league football and it is every single day with games on weekends.
