A 14-year-old Maine girl was found slain in her home on July 18, and a minor suspect is accused of murdering her.
A statement from Maine State Police only describes the suspect as "a male juvenile from Maine."
It further alleges that "McLaughlin and the juvenile did know each other."

"Brooke was just firm and confident in her beliefs," said Rick Sirois, dean of students at Maranacook Community Middle School, speaking to the Portland Press Herald. "She'd sometimes ask to eat lunch in my office. We'd have casual conversations about life in general, and she was always a pleasure."

She was also an animal lover, and had a pet bearded dragon — a type of lizard — named Ziggy.

15-year-old accused of killing girl whose body was found in Mt. Vernon home

A 15-year-old boy from Wayne has been identified in court documents as the juvenile charged with murder in connection with the killing of a 14-year-old Mount Vernon girl.

AG had been in a relationship with McLaughlin since February, according to the boy’s Facebook page.

Additional case documents, including a police affidavit that would include details of how Grant allegedly killed McLaughlin, have been ordered impounded by a judge and are not available to the public.

NOTE: the minor charged is named in the final linked article. I am not clear on whether he is charged as an adult or as a minor so I chose to redact his name in the snips.

Tragic all around. Rest in peace, Brooke...

Daily Mail (of course) has lots of pics. I cringe a bit when I read they were involved in a "relationship". Fourteen years old! Am I just a little out of date? The police will not release any details. I just hope she didn't suffer too much.

Oh, Brooke looks so young, pretty and innocent in her pictures. What a shame and a waste of another human being. Those who knew her and loved her will never be the same -- ever.

Hoping we will hear more details, but since the accused is a minor, we may not see much more about him. If he is tried as an adult -- I don't know how that works up in Maine -- we should hear more, but I'm not counting on it.
Prayers for her family and friends. The world has lost another beautiful young person.

Donna Walker, a close family friend of the McLaughlin's, told The US Sun the boy was someone Brooke "trusted and felt safe with."

"I only met him a handful of times but I see his [family] on a regular basis," said Walker.

"Neither he nor any of his family have shown any type of aggression or anything like that ... [he was] polite, well-mannered, respected.

"We're all kind of in shock and second-guessing everything now.

"I would have never dreamt that the kid could possibly do something like this ... his [family] has reached out to us and they're in just as much disbelief as everyone else.

"The important thing is having a conversation and letting them express their emotions. And then helping them kind of process those emotions in terms of in school," Charette said. "There's going to be an empty spot in our classroom."

Grant is being held at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. A judge in Waterville district court ordered all court documents sealed. Prosecutors ordered a diagnostic evaluation to determine if Grant should be tried as an adult. The next court hearing is set for Sept. 14.

"Both of these students rode the buses with elementary school students, so there's a connection in both Wayne and Mount Vernon, and they saw these people on the bus on a regular basis," Charette said. "So, these are tough conversations we have to have with parents knowing that they are trying to give support to their children to help understand this very adult situation."

Grant, who had been dating Brooke since at least February, is currently being held at the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.

As previously reported by The US Sun, on the day Brooke was murdered, her family's car was stolen from outside their home.

The vehicle - a red 2010 Chevrolet Impala - was later recovered 15 to 20 miles away the next morning in the town of Wayne, where Grant's family lives.

She had celebrated her 14th birthday just two weeks before she was killed.
Her death also came two days after Grant's 15th birthday

So this murder was premeditated and carefully planned? What in the world?!
It appears the young killer (I won't call him a kid at this point) was upset that his birthday wasn't being "properly celebrated" so he decided to do this in order that the day would always be remembered?! Try him as an adult and upon conviction, throw away the key! I can hardly believe some of these cases anymore.
