how'd she know what was in the paternal gma's house?

Sorry. . had to respond to this before I catch up.

The mom and dad talked about the living arrangements. She wanted him to live with his mom while he had Ayla. . and he did move up there. They might have discussed where she was going to sleep. . .heck mom could have given him the toddler bed. . .or offered a crib and dad said he didn't need one because he got her a toddler bed. Mom had also seen her at some point since dad had her. . .maybe Ayla told her about her big girl bed.

I don't see anything hinky about Mom knowing about the toddler bed.

All I know is that tho the mother, Trista does not appear to be extremely accurate and/or completely honest with multiple details as far as I can tell.. And tho, I find that concerning and disheartening, especially at a time such as this.. I must however say that I personally can see no avenue that allows for her, her family, or someone acting on her behalf could have been able to possibly enter into this home on Violetta Street that during the hours in question were not only occupied by the several that lived there(both adults and children).. But there were even more adults present throughout that home during the duration of the time in question.. Even without the extra people in the household and it just being JD and his extended family present in the home I can find no believable way that this mom, her family, or someone on her behalf could have possibly entered the home not to mention making their way all the way thru the home up to the attic where Ayla was sharing a "bedroom" with another child..

Therefor for me, personally tho, I find the mom and much of what she has stated to be "iffy" at best as far as accuracy and honesty.. I still can find no believeable avenue for there to be the slightest opportunity for her or anyone on her behalf to have stolen Ayla from the dad's home.. It's just not possible..

So while I do not believe everything that's coming from her mouth I don't believe she would even be capable of having knowledge of where her daughter is and to keep it under wraps.. No way.. On the other hand not having any knowledge of dad or his family my hope at this point is that they are however capable of having hid her with someone/somewhere and are efficiently keeping that info under wraps.. The longer this continues the less that possibility holds water for me.. As the harder this investigation gets, the rougher and more invasive and uncomfortable it gets and we still see no one on his side cracking and giving up where or who has hidden Ayla.. Obviously the less likely that it's such a positive outcome..

Can only wait and see at this point, sadly..

Can't bold from my iPhone- wondering where it was stated that the girls shared a room "in the attic"??

Q: So a motor vehicle did come to the house, late?
A: Yes. There was a neighbor that reported a motor vehicle outside..that is with the investigators right now.

Raw video interview TR Dec.19th 2011

TR: I guess there is, everyone is over there right now..and I just, I guess I just want to like, I want to pick her up and I want to hold her. And I just want to tell her like, she's going to be okay. And I just, I want to see her face. I want to see her eyes. I want to feel her touch. I want to tell her I love her and I feel like I can't protect her right now and I thought by me letting her go with her father and by me keeping her there for as long as she has been that it was the safest place for her to be because I knew that I wasn't able to take care of her but now I'm so wrong.
Like, since she's been there she got a broken arm, she's ended up missing, you know what I mean, and I wasn't trying to be secretive by going to the courts. I just, I didn't want to fight with him anymore. Like, me and her father have been fighting constantly and just..I didn't want to fight no more. I was tired of getting my hopes up that my daughter was going to get to come spend the night or even a weekend with me. And then when he wouldn't show with her..you know what I mean? Like..
Reporter: Plus you're in two far apart towns..
TR: Right. Like..she's all the way in Waterville and I'm here and there is nothing I can do right now. Except for sit here and put it out there that I hope that they find her. And I hope she is safe. And I hope she's okay, but like, my biggest fear is that she's all alone and she's scared..and she ain't got nobody to turn to. And I'm her mother, I'm supposed to be protecting her. There are other people out there looking for her, and not me. I should be in Waterville right now searching for my daughter but nobody will let me be there. Waterville PD are telling me I can't be there.
Reporter: Why is that?
TR: I don't know, they just keep saying like "interfere interfere" interfere with what? Like, you..there is an amazing woman out there that I wish I knew her name, I've seen her come up on TV, talking the same thing, you know, like, has Ayla eaten? Is she okay? I mean, like, this lady, she has her own family and she has sent her own kids with her mother so she could go search for my daughter. Like, I thank that woman right now for what she is doing because I can't be there.
Reporter: What if you went up there, like what are they gonna do?
TR: That's what I'm wondering like, what are they gonna do? My whole family is ready to go up there and do our own little search. But it's like, if the dogs can't even sniff her out from the outside, then where is she? If she's not outside, then who has her? Where is she?
Reporter: First there is the abduction theory, and then you hear people are pointing fingers, you're a suspect, he is a suspect, everybody is a suspect now. What really in your heart of hearts tells you happened here? Apparently he had some people over, somebody he didn't know or..?
TR: Uh, I'm really starting to believe that he has done something with my daughter. I'm really starting to feel that, as a mother, that somebody in his family or himself has done something with Ayla. And if he has, all he's gotta do is come out and just say it. Know what I mean? Just come out and talk to me. Just tell me where she is. Because I want to know where she is. I haven't seen her in over a month and then this is what happens? Like I can't..

clip with TR Dec. 19th 2011

Reporter: From the kitchen table at her fathers house in Portland, TR says she hasn't slept since the call on Saturday, that her 20 month old baby named Ayla was missing from a Waterville home where she stayed with the father, JD. Reynolds says the couple, who were never married, had no legal custody arrangement, but they did have an agreement. Including around the time Trista was in rehab.
TR: The agreement was, was that if he took Ayla, if I let him take care of Ayla for the time being, for me to get back on my feet, he had to live with his mother because I thought it would have been the safest place for her to be. And..I was wrong.

WMTV RR interview Dec.19th 2011:

Q: People are pointing fingers at the family..
A: Exactly, I mean, no no no no, see, what you don't understand is, my granddaughter wasn't with us. She was with her father, and has been. Where is my granddaughter? I'll keep saying it until I get closure. Where is my granddaughter? I want her home! Do people not understand that? I want her home and I thank everybody that is out there right now. The state police, the FBI, everybody that is involved, I thank them from the bottom of my heart. This whole thing is just tearing me up..I just..I want her home. I want answers. Q: You'll get arrested.
A: Exactly.

http://www.kjonline.com/news/Press-conference-today-on-missing-toddler.html

Dec.19th 2011 quoted from article:

The toddler had lived in Portland with her mother and grandmother until mid-October, said Becca Hanson, Ayla’s grandmother. The grandparents, who are not married and have separate addresses, said Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services had removed Ayla from her mother’s care in October. The maternal grandparents criticized the agency, although no details about the action were available Sunday.
Hanson was staying with Ayla’s mother, Trista Reynolds, in a South Portland motel Sunday as the search continued in Waterville.
“This is the worst thing of all because she doesn’t know where her daughter is at,” Hanson said. “I’m hoping that they call us soon and say they found her.”
Hanson said Trista Reynolds was not able to talk to the media. Trista Reynolds also has a 9-month-old son who is living with her at the South Portland motel, Hanson said.
Ayla’s grandparents described her as a bright, happy girl.
“Ayla started walking when she was 10 months old,” Hanson said. “She’s a really outgoing child. She always had a smile on her face.”
Ayla loves her little brother, Hanson said. “She tries to give him his bottle and his binky. They’re like two peas in a pod.”

Dec. 19th 2011 ABC interview with TR

TR: He would help me out, he'd take care of her until I was on my feet. We've been unable to actually get along the last few weeks and "parent" together.
Reporter: Reynolds said she filed paperwork on Thursday to get full custody of the toddler, one day before Ayla went missing, but says she hadn't told Ayla's father.
TR: He didn't know I went to file them. He'll know now but I haven't told him and no one told him.
Reporter: Reynolds says she hasn't spoken to Ayla's father Justin since their daughter disappeared.
TR: I've had no contact with him. He's had no contact with me. Like, all I know is he's the last man to see my daughter and all I want to know is where she is.
RR: I want Ayla home with her family. With her mother, with her Pop Pop, with her Grandmother, with all of us. I want her home, I want her safe. And I pray right now that she is safe.

Reporter: Trista Reynolds says her 20 month old daugther is bright, fun, talkative, and energetic. Not knowing where she is or what has happened to her is heartwrenching.
TR: It's killing me. Every minute and every hour and every second that is going by and there's nothing about her, it's hurts.
Reporter: Reynolds, who has never lived with Ayla's father, says she is angry that this happened on his watched. Asked if she thought he would ever hurt their daughter...
TR: I don't know, like, I barely know who Justin is. We've never been in a relationship. I want to believe that no, he wouldn't hurt my daughter, but if he did...he just needs to tell me. But I feel deep down inside that..he didn't hurt her but I do think he did something with her.
Reporter: Trista Reynolds is holding out hope and praying for her daughters dafe return.
TR: I am praying that the next phone call or the next knock that I get coming at my door, they're gonna say, I want you to come with me cause we got your daughter.

Dec. 20th 2011 short quotes from TR.

TR: I just want answers. I just want to know where my daughter is. And who she may be with. Just bring her home.
Reporter: At around 8 oclock on Friday night, Justin Dipietro, Ayla's father, says he put the toddler to bed. When he went to check on her Saturday morning, he says she was gone. He's had custody of Ayla since child welfare agents placed her with him in November, while Reynolds was in rehab for substance abuse. During that time, Ayla's mom said she became concerned when she saw bruises, and confronted him.
TR: He said well, you know, her and my neice like to go down on the stairs. Like, it could be from that. I just..I didn't believe it.

Father JD First statement to media Dec .20th 2011

http://www.onlinesentinel.com/news/breakingnews/Father-of-missing-toddler-speaks-for-first-time.html

First, I'd like to thank everyone involved for their continued support in finding our daughter, Ayla.
I have no idea what happened to Ayla, or who is responsible. I will not make accusations or insinuations towards anyone until the police have been able to prove who's responsible for this.
Ayla was in my sole custody at the time of her disappearance per agreement between her mother and I because she was temporarily unable to care for Ayla. I have shared every piece of information possible with the police. Contrary to some statements floating around out there, I have been in communication with Ayla's mother over the last couple of weeks. The Waterville police have the transcripts from my phone for verification of those communications.
It has always been my intention to have a shared parenting arrangement with Ayla's mother and I will continue to work towards that when Ayla is returned to us.
My family and friends will continue to do everything we can to assist in this investigation and to get Ayla back home.
We appreciate the media respecting our privacy at this time. If anyone has any information that might be helpful, please contact Waterville police at 207-680-4700.

Wonder if the dad and grandmother faked an abduction because they knew the child's mother was filing for full custody. There is something fishy about this case.

Too much medical stuff for me to lean towards hiding Ayla, besides, what do you do with the child for the next 16 years? Continue to hide? Not an easy thing to do.

WATERVILLE — The father of missing toddler Ayla Reynolds said Tuesday night he has no idea what happened to his daughter.

In a statement released through the Waterville Police Department, Justin DiPietro said, “I will not make accusations or insinuations towards anyone until the police have been able to prove who is responsible for this.”

RBBM: So ... Ayla's "father" finally speaks and HIS statement is RELEASED THROUGH the Waterville P.D.

Hmmm ... So ... Justin did NOT speak to the media directly ...

Hmmm ... and I am "betting that a "defense" attorney wrote that statement for him and he gave it to LE ... the "wording" sounds like something a "criminal defense attorney" would use -- not this "father" ...

:twocents: Justin's statements are MORE about him and Trista -- NOT Ayla ...

MOO MOO and another MOO ...

--ayla slept in the same room as her 18 month old cousin-----did she also not get up until 8:51 a.m. saturday?

--i would sure like to hear more from the family members that actually lived in that house..

( and i do realize that all kids differ---but i sure would have thought i was in heaven if my girls slept until 9 a.m. ! when they were that age.)

I don't understand all the questioning about the mother on Nancy Grace tonight. While she is young and has been to rehab, why focus on her when she obviously wasn't there?

And if police told the Mom's family not to come there and search, maybe they are just trying to keep a big family argument from arising in the middle of the investigation, since we know there are hard feelings on both sides.

LE took two cars away that belonged to the Daddy and were searching dumpsters in his neighborhood. I think they must have a scenario for what happened to this baby. She may have been handed off to someone, but not alive.

One more point ~ the search seems centered around the father's house and neighborhood.

Since Ayla's DNA would be shared by Mom and Mom's parents, it could possibly confuse the evidence if they were anywhere around there shedding hair and skin cells. They want clear evidence of this child without any question of where it came from.

And let's face it, Dad's family is not going to let Mom into his parent's house at this point anyway.

which gpa? would be super if there was a link . . .

I just watched ng and I am confused and mad that this gma and mom of this lil girl is still 80 miles away. Why not go find this baby

Read my last post ~ the police told them to stay away, maybe to keep from contaminating the area with DNA from the Mom, which would be similar to the baby's. That's my theory. :twocents:

And really, police often ask parents not to search for various reasons. That's been the case in several missing persons searches lately.

ITA. The moment I read that statement, I thought it had attorney written all over it. Honestly though, if I had a child go missing on my watch, I'd hire an attorney too. No way would I go into a police investigation and questioning without one. Yes, even if I was innocent.

Well, this is different for the first sentence from a missing child’s parent. :(

“I will not make accusations or insinuations towards anyone until the police have been able to prove who is responsible for this.”

Did anyone expect dad to announce the "verdict" about who was responsible for his child’s disappearance during this first news conference? (Nope.) Did he make this odd statement because this is what he hopes others will do in regard to him (not make accusations)?

IMO, it was hoped that he would express great concern about the return of his daughter, but he failed to express that. His entire statement appears to be in defense of himself. There isn’t a hint of concern about the location of his daughter, so does he know where she is located? It is also disturbing that he never refers to this missing child as his daughter or his baby.

I can't blame him for that statement, since he has surely heard the mother's accusations and insinuations almost constantly through the media. I would be interested in making it clear that I would not be playing that game. I do admit it sounds a bit self serving, but we don't know what he has been asked to say or not say. He might have been asked not to discuss much in terms of the case itself, and I can't blame him for clamming up in that regard if LE has asked him to, or if they haven't, but he is still afraid of saying too much. JMO. It is subject to change fast, especially if he keeps talking and all the statements sound like this.

I woke up this morning to read the remainder of the old thread and all of this thread, as well as all the articles. At this point, I'm now seriously on the fence :fence: about this case. Here are some rambling thoughts I've had:
  • Mom comes off as sincere in how she wants her daughter back
  • Mom has it in for Dad.
  • Mom is not a suspect at this time due to the fact she wasn't in the area.
  • She had or has a drug problem.
  • She has two young children, obviously by two different men. There is no news about the 9 month old boy. Where was he when she was in rehab?
  • She is living in a motel with no fixed address. Why is her mother with her rather than the other way around?
  • Neither parent has a criminal record.
  • Dad releases a statement through the police and spends more time defending himself against the mother than begging for his daughter's return.
  • The house was full of people the night of abduction. How late did they stay? Did someone leave at 3:30 AM making all the noise?
  • The child did not fare well under Dad's care, and the care of his mother, sister, and mystery woman.
  • LE is holding the details extremely close. Good news for them, bad news for us. (I prefer it that way if it helps bring Ayla home).

Now, I fully understand why LE doesn't want the mother anywhere near the father. In addition, LE usually doesn't want the parents involved in the physical search. Should Ayla be found deceased by a search party which includes a biological relation, their DNA could contaminate the crime scene, implicating them in the crime. In fact, just finding the child while on the search could be interpreted as the person having prior knowledge of the crime.

I do believe Ayla was taken from the house for one reason or another. Alive or deceased, she needs to be found followed by prosecution of the perp.

"I have no idea what happened to Ayla, or who is responsible," he said. "I will not make accusations or insinuations towards anyone until the police have been able to prove who's responsible for this."

As the father of a missing child, I would EXPECT him to make accusations of who he feels is responsible so that police can follow up on his suspicions. The bolded part could take a very long time, IMO. The way he has worded this makes me think he is NOT being cooperative with police.

Then why would the police have been nice enough to release this statement for him? The way I see it, the release of this statement from the father, through the PD, is their way of disputing many of the mother's statements, such as that LE doesn't know where he is. I think the only thing he is saying is that he isn't LE, and it isn't his job to point fingers. He'll let the professionals handle it and hope they do a good job.

The only thing that scares me more than I already was for Ayla is the petition for paternity determination...if the father caught wind of that and had reason to believe that Ayla wasn't his...That, to me, is terrifying.

I have a feeling that the paperwork listed above is what she actually filed on Friday, as opposed to a full petition for sole custody. MOO.

I agree somewhat. It sounds almost like a dare. It reminds me of when one of my kids takes something from the other.

"Did you take my cookies?"

"I have no idea what happened to your cookies, or who is responsible," . . ."I will not make accusations or insinuations towards anyone until you have been able to prove who's responsible for this."

"Mommmmmmmmm!"

That being said, I don't believe for a second that he wrote that. It's pure legal-speak. I do wish there would have at least been a plea to the public and maybe a thank-you to LE, FBI, searchers et al.
